Congrats to the students and staff of Unitech. While it's nothing new, it is what these institutions are meant to do and an achievement all the same. Would anyone know what the total enrollment of the Uni is?

I guess the aim should be the have increasing number every year and in new areas too. But it looks like industry is always way ahead of training institutions like Unitech in terms of equipment and workplace facilities. No wonder the usual complaint from employers is that the graduates from our colleges and universities are not well prepared for the work environment.

====================================================

538 to graduate from Unitech today

A TOTAL of 538 graduands will receive their degrees, diplomas and certificates at the University of Technology convocation in Lae today.Among the graduands will be Terry Karafa from Lelefiru Village in the Gulf province, who has made history by becoming the first Papua New Guinean to obtain the necessary paper qualification to be an oil wire line engineer. Mr Karafa, a student of the Department of Mining Engineering, will be graduating in absentia. His father will receive the degree on his behalf as he is currently working as a junior field engineer in Perth, Western Australia.Mr Karafa is one of 10 Mining Engineering students receiving their scrolls today. The Mining Engineering Department offers courses in Mineral Processing Engineering and Mining Engineering. The graduation ceremony will see 302 students receiving their degrees, 217 students receiving their diplomas, 15 students receiving their associate diplomas, 21 students receiving their certificate, one student receiving his post-graduate certificate and one student receiving his post-graduate diploma. This year's ceremony would be the last to be conducted at the Sandover car park. This is because the site has been marked for the construction of a K2 million Environmental Research and Management Centre (ERMC) complex. The complex is part of the university's K8 million developmental aid project, funded by the European Union. The construction of the ERMC complex is scheduled to begin in June this year.
