The black wire, as Makoto said, should be grounded. I think it's supposed to hook up to a tab on the metal cage near the flyback transformer. (Don't have mine here at school with me or I'd check for ya.)

I was confused as to which mod you performed initially - you had said VGA but now appear to be referring to the High-Res mod. From your description of the modifications you performed, it sounds like you did it right for your analogue board, but those CC II a/bs seem to be really weird. The High-Res mod has had lots of problems (just check the archives from back in April and May for those), but AFAIK, all the VGA mods have worked fine. I need to take a look at Neumann's directions again and see if there's anything funky with the sense wires there as I suspect there may be.

I'll go do that now, and I'll post again in a few when I figure anything out...
