Yes, I have one A/B that doesn't have J78/J79. It's the Mystic. My first CC conversion.

The A/B didn't have J78/J79 and I didn't use the 4.7KOhm resistor on that A/B. The ONLY mod made to the A/B is the 8pin to 12pin mod. That's it.

I followed that up with the "cable fiddle" (Note: fiddle and fiddling are technical terms) mod.

Step 1: 8 to 12 pin mod
Step 2: cable fiddle

A/B to L/B Edge connector "cable fiddle" modification as follows:

I cut (very carefully) lines 20, 24 and 25 that connects the A/B to the L/B.

On the L/B connector side:
I stripped the ends of lines 20 and 24 (on the L/B side) and wired them together and wrapped them with electrical tape. Line 25 was left open and I used electrical tape to make sure that it doesn't touch anything.

On the A/B connetor side:
I left lines 20, 24 and 25 as is. Just covered them with electrical tape.

If you decide to upgrade to a PCC motherboard, then you must do yet another "cable fiddle" mod. If you do Chris' VGA mod, you will not have to do any more cable fiddling or L/B fiddling when it comes to monitor sense lines.
