1. Yes, you can put a full 68040 in, although the 605 also has a 68LC040 which runs at 25 MHz.

2. You can clock chip a Mystic to 40 MHz with 10 minutes of rather delicate soldering. Micromat's board is ridiculously expensive.

3. Absolutely. It's possible at 33 MHz and about 20% better at 40.
