Were you able to cut the 20-pin (since you are missing J78 and J79) and THEN try it? Or did you turn it on before you did that?

I had a similar problem back when I did my first one. I ended up doing BOTH modifications to my one analog board! (I removed J78 and soldered a bridge on J79 AND cut the 20-pin .. oops!) .. White smoke came up from the logic board and the screen was black. I figured it was fried so I bought a new CC on eBay .. got that one to work completely (this time I did the 640x480 upgrade FIRST and THEN did the PCC upgrade - ONE STEP AT A TIME! lol). So I had a lot of confidence and went back to try and fix my old CC that I thought I fried .. and I did fix it! I figured I could "undo" what I had done to the 20-pin by soldering a wire to "re-make" the connection that I had cut. I did this .. tested it with my meter .. hooked everything back up .. and boom .. worked perfectly! I WAS SHOCKED! I thought I had fried it the last time!

That's just my experience .. again YMMV.
