Subject: Our school uses as fundraiser to help with teacher travel.
In reply to: 's message, "St. Patrick's Day shows: how does your school handle these? Do your dancers recieve payment (fundraising for majors) or are they unpaid labor? Does the income go to a nonprofit/tax shelter or to the school business?" on 08:27:26 01/25/24 Thu

No idea if they claim tax or not but I do know our school is small but pretty much has at least a dancer or two every day at Worlds , NAIDC and of course
the O. They pay another TC to cover their classes depending on the time of year. My class fee does not cover our share of the class, travel expense hotel, wages for the day my daughter dances and meals and additional wages for someone else. I don’t expect the class fees for the whole school to go up for something my dancer qualified for. Our TC is not paid to attend a local Feis and yet they are there all day. Every year whether it’s about worlds travel or where does the St Patrick’s day money go this comes up. I get that some people truly see nothing in return but I cannot say the same. Personally I’d feel better if I was given a bill for majors as I know even with fundraising from St Patrick’s day the TC pays a lot of her own $ (yes she may write that off but that is not the same as money in hand in a tough economy) Our school has a nonprofit pac that controls the fundraising $ so I do know that the TC does not just blow it on fancy flights etc
