Subject: Sorry, a dancer who can't speak up when the wrong music is played shouldn't be going to a major.
In reply to: OP 's message, "This was my U9 at an overseas major. At that young age they don't know unless they've been taught what to do, feared being disrespectful. Talk about spending a ton of money for overseas majors and for that to blow it." on 20:41:29 11/14/23 Tue

Music recognition is part of dancing in any level over beginner. More important than any trick in a dance or kicking over their head. This is what is really wrong with modern competitive Irish dance, dancers don't have as clear as a understanding about music. It used to be you were not only responsible for the tune, but recognizing the musician was playing it at the correct speed for you, and you had to indicate on stage that the music was too fast or too slow during the intro.
I am sorry that your dancer's teacher didn't prepare her better for the competition, but that is on the teacher, not the judges or staff. Dancers used to be better prepared on musicality than they are now. We used to be well taught on this.
