Pants up, pants down, what position we received it in...
all of that depended on who was punishing us, what we had done, and where we were.

Ms Jefferson, the lady that took care of me whenever Mother was not available, she was almost always an on-the-seat-of-the-pants spanker. If we needed a quick correction, she'd do it right there. My Mother typically used on-the-seat-of-the-pants correction as well.

If we needed more drastic correction, Father or Grandfather would take care of it. Father would take us back to his room, (or Grandfather would take us over to their part of the house) a lengthy lecture, pants downed, use the paddle on us, then off to our rooms.

Also, (loosely related to the subject of spanking) if we were caught talking dirty, mother would send us to the corner with a half bar of soap in our mouths. (Saliva melts soap, in case there's any doubt. You're not supposed to swallow, and it runs down the outside of your mouth.) It never made me sick, like they say it does now.

My best friend's parents did use on-the-seat-of-the-pants correction same as my parents did. But they were also true believers in full-on pants-down spankings, and they far more quickly applied it than my parents!

We'd be brought into the house. (Except for once) lectured, pants downed, paddled and left there to cry.

There was a minor difference between paddling with Mrs C and Mr C. While Mrs C seemed to have a particular number of strikes in mind, Mr C had a particular style and would literally keep going until he was convinced we were crying hard enough.

(This was a particular issue for their oldest and usually my Half-Brother, as they both liked to play the tough guys when getting it.)

Side note: If I was out with their family, and Misbehaving, I'd get an on-the-seat-of-the-pants correction just the same as their kids, and be brought back to their house for a full paddling before being returned home.

But the real consequences were if we broke something in the course of our mischief. Then we could forget about the little ping-pong paddle. Mr C worked in my family's lumber yard after all. Everyone involved would be lined up, pants completely off, a lecture, a spanking that would not be soon forgotten, (with a specially made paddle) then we'd be lined up facing the wall in the hallway between their kitchen and living room.

We called it corner time, but it wasn't in the corner.
