When I was a child and teenager I thought my parents were unreasonably strict. Now that I look back on how I was raised I believe they were the perfect middle ground between lenient and strict. The house rules were very reasonable and for the most part the punishment were reasonable too.

My parents did not spank very often but it was also not a last resort. There had to be aggravating factors for my punishment to be a spanking.

Once a spanking was decided upon there was nothing I could do to get a lesser punishment. Although there were a couple of times were I would deliberately manipulate things so that it was my mom who spanked me rather than my dad. This did not always work because sometimes my mom thought I needed to be spanked with my dad’s belt.

I never tried to get out of a spanking beyond pleading and promising to be good, which never worked!
