No like you I was never aware of older kids in high school or even junior high, receiving bare bottom spankings or paddlings in school. Physical Education Coaches, both male and female, were known to paddle students on very thin shorts. The fabric stretched till it was skin tight across the buttocks. Stories did the rounds that she administered bare bottom spankings in her office. Boys in the main but girls also, it was said, would go over her knee. Up till that morning I had only these stories to go on, never having heard or saw one for myself. I had no real reason to doubt these stories since they came fron very plausible and reliable sources such as female high school seniors who wanted to become secretaries themselves in the future and by helping out the schools secretaries were able to gain some valuable work experience. Also the secretary's themselves would frequently discuss, sometimes discreetly, sometimes not so discreetly, what they had heard and sometimes seen. However, there is nothing like actually hearing or seeing something for yourself to really satisfy your curiosity. Anyway I had been sent by Mrs Slaughter, my homeroom teacher, to deliver our school report cards to Mrs Ellisor's secretary in preperation for them being mailed to our parents. When I got to Miss Darity's office, which was next to Miss Ellisor's, she was not there and the room was empty. The door to Mrs Ellisor's office was shut, but I could still hear the distinct and unmistakable sound of a bare bottom being soundly smacked! Now as anyone who grew up, as I did, in the Fifties, Sixties and Seventies will tell you the sound of a bare bottom being spanked has a sound all of it's own! There is nothing else like it in the world. Especially when it is a hand or a wooden implement being appled to bare flesh. When as kids whenever we heard somebody getting spanked we became adept at guessing whether the spanking was being administered with the hand or an implement! We even were able to distinguish between the different implements being used. I could tell straightaway that the spanking was being given with the hand. Also I was able to discern that the spanking was at the very least at the midway point since along with the chorus of OOOOWS, AAAAHHS, screams, begging and pleading, there was also a continual crying and sobbing. Spankings followed a clear trajectory and the often incoherent crying and sobbing was always a sign that the punishment was at either its mid point or later stages. I established the kid being spanked was a boy because, and I still remember these words sixty one years later, he began futilely pleading, "Please Mrs Ellisor, no more, no more!! It hurts so much, OH SO MUCH!!!! Jesus, please no more!!!!" Mrs Ellisor's only response was to continue the spanking with no let up! I must have been listening to this for about a minute and a half when Miss Darity suddenly returned, accompanied by a much older high school senior girl, whose name was Grace and who was evidently getting some useful work experience. "And what can I do for you, Kenny?" She asked. "Mrs Slaughter told me to bring these to you, Ma'am!" I replied! Kids in those days, in the South anyway, routinely addressed their elders and betters as Ma'am and Sir! "Hmm, school report cards! I hope Kenneth you did not have a crafty peek at yours whilst Grace and I were not here! Otherwise you might well be paying a visit of your own to Mrs Ellisor's office!" At this I began to panic blurting out "no Ma'am I swear I did'nt, honestly!!" She then, with a broad smile on her face, put me at ease by saying, "I'm only joking with you Kenny! I know you're a good boy! Now get back to your class!" "Yes Ma'am, thankyou Ma'am!!" I promptly replied and left the room. At this stage the spanking in Mrs Ellisor's office had stopped and all that could be heard was the sound of crying, sobbing and Mrs Ellisor's voice scolding the boy. I could not clearly hear what she was saying.

I never found out who the boy actually was. A story went round the school that a male student had drawn an obscene image, some male genitalia, in a book! One of his classmates had tattled on him and under interrogation he had confessed to his crime. This story has the ring of truth to me since his spanking was a genuine 'seat scorcher' an authentic 'butt burner', the kind of spanking that was standard and routine in homes in those days. It was, in other words, a real and proper spanking!!!! Mrs Ellisior was obviously and understanably extremely angry, disgusted and outraged by what this student had done! And she had vowed to teach him a lesson he would never forget! Which from what I heard of his spanking, she most certainly did! I strongly suspect that most of her other spankings may not of been quite so severe even if they had been applied to the bare backside!

Anyway I was/am just grateful that fate gave me that opportunity to hear a segment of that humdinger of a spanking!

Otherwise, apart from this one and the spankings I saw and heard in preschool and kindergarten classes, which were comparatively mild, every other spanking I saw or heard was over clothing of some sort. The typical procedure in elementary school was for kids to be spanked on underwear(boys) and panties (girls). Dresses/skirts would be lifted up and pants taken down and the offender would be placed over the, nearly always teachers knee/lap. The spankings were always fairly vigorous and energetic and stung plenty. Often your vocal protests would also testify to its effectiveness. And you usually got up off a teachers lap with teary eyes and a stinging and warm bottom. But they were not in the same league as the 'bare butt cheek scorchings' that we routinely got off our parents, aunts, uncles and also friends parents, baby sitters, etc (Regarding the latter, I was unlucky enough - though I did have some high school and college girls babysit me - to have for the most part my big sisters sitting for me! That's a subject for some other posts!)
