Im a gen x who grew up in a christian home. Spanking threats were given by neighbors, family members, friends, people in our church, even complete strangers. If i was acting up in a grocery store a complete stranger literally would threaten to warm my bottom. Several individuals followed through with the threats so i took those seriously.
