Bare bottom spanking was common in Mississippi schools back in the Fifties and Sixties! From kindergarton through to fifth grade especially. It was completely the norm and regarded as being the natural way of things! Parents, in my experience, invariably accepted endorsed and supported it. The teachers being seen to be in a position of locus parentis! The prevailing philosophy was that bare bottom spanking was the norm at home so why should it not be so at school as well! That does not mean that all teachers spanked on the bare but many of them did. The younger teachers as much as the older ones. Boys more than girls got the bottoms bared but it was not that unusual for girls to get their panties taken down as well. Sometimes it would be done in front of the whole class. On other occasions the offender would be taken out into the hallway or to the cloakroom. One teacher would make the whole class leave the classroom and then administer the spanking. Leaving the door open so we could fully hear the proceedings, however! None of us dared to have a crafty peek in case, if discovered doing so, we should ourselves be punished. But in most cases the spanking, whether on the bare or on underpants or panties, was given in front of everybody in the classroom. And of course there were those trips to the principal's office, where, if the offence was deemed serious enough, a bare bottom spanking would be given.
