It was never put this way and I never talked to my dad about it while he was alive but I'm pretty sure as I got older, the routine went that I was allowed to go into their room ahead of my dad, take my pants and panties off and bend over the de facto spanking chair to maintain a bit of privacy/modesty. My dad then walked in behind me, and I would hear the sound of the belt sliding through the loops of the same Wrangler jeans he always wore.

Sometimes I had to wait a very long time for my dad to get home when I knew a spanking was coming. And in the pre cell phone days, I rarely knew exactly when he'd be home from whatever construction or landscaping job he was on. But once he was home, he usually treated disciplining my brother or me as a task on his list and got it done quickly but methodically. There wasn't much of a pre spanking ritual.

The threat of spankings I don't think ever went away until I was grown even though I don't think my dad ever spanked me past maybe 14.
