I always wondered what it would have been like to get spanked by the main girls coach in my high school. She had a paddle hanging from her office that was covered in signatures. My older cousin said she signed it somewhere but I could never find it any time I could sneak over and look at it. Elena said that when she went to my high school, girl athletes didn't get sent to the principal, they got sent to the coach's office. She also said she knew of girls getting paddled for being lazy in practice or committing bad fouls in games (that might be a tall tale).

Anyway, corporal punishment was still a thing when I was in high school but sometime between around 1980 for Elena and 1990 for me, it was streamlined with more official paper work and only happened from a principal. Elena I think was the last generation where teachers spanked kids without worrying about a trail of paperwork.

Anyway, from my cousin's description, I've always imagined what it would have been like getting pulled to the coach's locker room office in volleyball or basketball shorts, having the coach drop the blinds, getting my licks, and signing the paddle. Not that I necessarily would have wanted that to happen as a teen but the thought of it has always interested me.
