CHAPTER 5
Abbot Jerl, squinted up into the sky. A beautiful sunset streched across the western sky. "'Tis a gorgeous sight, eh, Father Abbot?" The old mouse looked down, to see a middle-aged male otter at the foot of the stairs. "Aye Skipper, it surely is! I wonder what old Friar Derral is cooking up. Hmmm, what do you say Skip? Shall we pay those kitchens a visit?" Skipper of otters grinned widely, licking his lips, "Mmmmm, I don't need to go to the kitchens to know what 'e is cookin', Watershrimp an' 'otroot soup, I can smell it from 'ere!"

Revin, Aubbress, and several others, sat before the tapestry
of Martin the Warrior. They had been sitting there ever since lunch, each one of them thinking, thinking of what the rhyme could mean. Occasionally one of them would say what they thought outloud. But most often they were silent, each in their own world, imagining what the right answer might be. "BONG, BONG, BONG!" The sound shattered the stillness, and brought the creatures back to real life. A pretty mousemaid named Daisy cheerfully poked her head into the room, "Come on, out of those chairs or you might stick to them. That's the supper bell. And do wipe those gloomy looks off your faces, I don't serve food to beasts who look like rain clouds on paws!" Aubbress heaved herself up from her seat, a faint smile tugging at her lips, "Huh, you're to serve us, Daisy? I recall a time when you were so clumsy, that you were afraid to get up in the morning for fear you would trip over your slippers!" Daisy sniffed,
"That was ages ago! Now, do you or don't you want Watershrimp and Hotroot soup with wheat rolls?" All the animals scrambled up, each rushing to get to Cavern Hole. Daisy just shook her head, "Tut, tut! I merely mention what the food'll be, and they run to get to it like madbeasts!"

After the meal, Revin suddenly knew what the poem was all about! Calling for silence, he explained it, line by line.
"Seek first the darkest path. We should do just what it says, Seek the darkest path."
It's also obvious that we should burn incense on that path.
To appease the great ones anger or something like that.
Then, it says to follow the the path 'til we come to a river, and that we should not touch or eat the flowers there, that is plain enough.
Sail along 'til the river ends, means we sail in a boat to where the river ends,
and then we will probably have reached The place o' no
return!"
