CHAPTER 12
Tarrow finally broke the stillness, "The rhyme says, 'Beware the flowers there, they'll make your tummyach,
then they'll make you turn pale and shiver,
before your life, they will take." She pointed down to the meadows, "Look, see those pale blue flowers? They're the only thing in these meadows, besides the grass." Aubbress's jaw was set, as she replied, "Then we had better stay clear of them! Come on, let's get down this hill." At last they came to the edge of the river, Tarrow looked worriedly at the strong current, "We need a boat! And even if we had one, I'm not sure we could steer it on this fast current." Revin studied his bushy tail nervously, "If only I had thought about that, if only..." Aubbress shouted from somewhere downstream, "Hey, come over here, I found a boat!" Tarrow and Revin were at her side faster than speeding arrows, "Where!" They called out in unison, "Where is it?"

Ashe and Senetta rang the evening bells. Ashe, at almost 13 seasons, and Senetta, at 12, did the perfect job. Senetta walked out of the belltower into the warm glow of the setting sun. Ashe tugged once more on the bell ropes before joining her, and together they went to Cavern Hole for supper. The meal was Deeper 'n ever pie, fried potatos in a hot sauce made from hotroot, black pepper, and other choice ingrediants, Friar Derrals special fish (made to his own recipe), ginger cookies (Mother Diviniah made them for the dibbuns), and strawberries 'n' cream. To drink, everyone had october ale. Senetta thought the food was good, but not near as good as it had been when Aubbress had still been with her. Sighing softly, she filled her plate with the delicious food, she knew that wishing could not bring back her adopted sister.

Aubbress pulled away several large bushes, Tarrow and Revin gasped, a small shrew logboat lay undesturbed on the muddy ground. It had a few places that needed patching up, but for the most part it was in great condition. Revin leaped for joy and hugged Aubbress so tight that she though he would squeeze her to death. Tarrow snickered behind her paw at Aubbress's pink face. Quickly Revin let her go, and she sat down hard on the ground. Changing the subject, he surveyed the boat, "Some pine resin will do the trick, did we bring any Tarrow?" The young otter nodded and pointed to her pack. When Revins back was turned, she snickered again, the squirrels ears were bright red from embarrasment. Choosing to ignore her, he soon had a fire going, over which he melted the pine resin. When it was sufficiently melted, he patched the boat. Aubbress and Tarrow both agreed that it needed a name, so they christened it 'The Adventurer' When they were about to climb into it, a small black hare appeared, "Fancy leavin' a chap behind, wot wot!" The travelers groaned inwardly, but they introduced themselves, "I'm Revin, this is Aubbress, and this here is Tarrow." The hare nodded, and then did an elegant leg, "Well, I'm bally glad to meet you, wot! My blinkin' name is Beachwood Dilldrue Bluescut Jetfur Tallum. But you can call me Jet. Revin was awed at how fast Jet had spoken his name in one breath. Aubbress nudged him, and Tarrow gave him the 'We had better camp here tonight or else we'll be caught out in the dark with a starving rabbit' frown. Revin returned her glare with his best 'It's a hare, not a rabbit' look. Sighing, he made a small tent, in which everyone would sleep. He glanced over at Jet, who was right in in the middle of begging a bite of food from Tarrow and Aubbress. He sighed again, it was going to be a long night.

Chrassneyah was awakened from her sleep by the Abbey bells, she slithered out of the log where she was sleeping, to find that it was dark outside. Suddenly she caught a wiff of something in the air, "Ahh yessssssss, food hassssss passssed thisssssss way. Two treejumperssssssss and one riverdog. I shall hunt them down, and fill my empty ssssstomach." Quickly she slithered down the path, following Aubbress, Revin, and Tarrows trail. Away from the Abbey of Redwall.
