CHAPTER 19
Tarrow carefuly plucked the plant, then wordlessly she strode to Revin's side. She knelt down and examined him, a moment later she spoke without looking up, "Get me some fresh water, and lots of it." Jet hurried away to the river, while Aubbress stared anxiously on. When Jet had returned with the water, Tarrow took the thorn and pushed it, sharp tip first, into the wound. Aubbress averted her eyes, and Jet frowned, "I'll bet the blinkin' chap's glad he's not conscious, wot!" Tarrow nodded, "Aye, 'tis best that he isn't." She took a few banadages out of her pack and wrapped them around his leg, "He will probably have a very slight limp for the rest of his life, but otherwise he will still be able to climb trees as fast as any squirrel." Aubbress smiled at the ottermaid, "Thank you Tarrow. Without your skill and knowledge, Revin would be dead." Jet also smiled, "Aye, thanks for bloomin' well patchin' him up, wot!" Tarrow waved off the complaments with a flick of her paw, "Oh shush now, 'twas nothing. I only did something anyone that knew about plants could have done." She turned to Jet, "Did you get the water I sent you for?" The hare nodded and gave a canteen to her. She uncapped it and then carefully began to bathe Revins bandaged wound.

Senetta wiped bits of a cherry flan from her snout with a paw. She giggled at River and Stream. They had each gotten hit in the face with a large late-strawberry pie, leaving their noses stained red, "Heeheehee!!! You two should see yourselves! Yeeheehee!!!" The twin otters blushed, their cheeks turning scarlet to match their noses. Ashe sported a pear turnover between his ears, and as he turned to see what Senetta was laughing at the remains of it slipped over his eyes, "Oh dear, 's all gone dark! An early bedtime for all of us." River gasped in mock horror, "Oohh noo!!!!" Stream grinned, "I'll save 'e River me ol' mate!!" A fist full of berries hit Ashe straight in the face, knocking the pear turnover away from his eyes, but making blueish purple stains on his snout. He wiped his face with a white kerchief, which when it came away wasn't quite so white anymore, "Hey!!" He then spoke to Senetta, "'tis almost noon. We have to go ring the bells." The squirrelmaid carefuly scrubbed her face clean of food, "Aye, so 'tis." She turned to River and Stream, "Sorry, but we have to go." "Tha's alright, ain't it Stream me ol' dog?" River turned to Stream, a mischievious glint in his eyes. Stream nodded, then frowned, "I ain't no streamdog any more'n yore a badgermum!" The sun continued to rise steadily higher as the happy banter of the otters drifted up from the ground and was carried away on the breeze.

Friar Derral stirred the hotroot soup that had been made the night before as it simmered on the stove, muttering to himself as he did so. He anxiously called to his helpers, "Is all the food ready?" The reply came swift and clear, "Almost, Friar Derral. Almost." He sighed, "'Tis almost noon, and that's when the feast begins!"

Aubbress spoke to Jet as they watched Tarrow bathing Revins bandaged leg, "How are we going to get back upriver? The current only flows in one direction." Jet frowned, "You're flippen' well correct. Hmmm, hows about stayin' here 'til Revin gets well so he can walk, wot?" Aubbress laughed softly at the black hare, "'Twould be awhile that we stay here then. I think we should take the boat, put Revin and our packs in it, and pull it until we get to the meadows. What do you say?" Jet frowned again, "What would we bally well do then?" Aubbress sighed and opened her food pack, "I don't know. Perhaps we should wait for the morning to deside anything. Right now it's lunch time!!" Jet grinned, "Ahhh lunch time. What shall I have, wot?" Tarrow overheard him and spoke up, "Anythin' ye want. Jus' so long as ya don't eat us out of food packs and boat!" The hare turned up his nose at her comment and daintily nibbled at a small teacake. But when her back was to him he scoffed it all in one bite.
