CHAPTER 20
Revin's eyelids flickered and he groaned. Tarrow immediatly bathed his bandaged wound again, she had stayed ever by his side waiting for him to gain consciousness. Aubbress jerked herself up and ran to his side, "Tarrow, is he alright?" The ottermaid grinned. "Let him speak for himself!" The young squirrel's voice sounded normal, as he spoke, "Hello Aubbress!! And yes, I'm just fine thank you." He winced when Tarrow pressed on the spot where the thorn was, "Ouch! What's stuck in my leg, a log?" She shook her head, "No matey, it is what's keepin' you alive at the moment. When it has done it's work, it will come straight out without any pain." Aubbress smiled one last time and walked over to where Jet lay talking in his sleep. She let him be for a moment to hear what he had to say, "Mmmm, good pale cider, wot! And just look at the size o' those blinkin' strawberries! Absoballylutly delicious lookin'!! Oh my aunties whiskers, it's been ten seasons since I've had such a spiffin' trifle!" She giggled and gently kicked his side, "Wakey, wakey, sleepyhead. Sir Revin is awake, I should hope that you'll be able stop having that mouthwatering feast long enough to see him." The hare leaped up and raced to the squirrels side, "Oh, how flippin' wonderful!! How are ye Revin, me ludd?" A weak grin slipped onto the squirrel's face, "Never better." Jet nodded happily, "I knew it! Alright, we need te get you some proper tuck, wot!!" Aubbress laughed, "Go ahead and fix us some lunch Jet, I've never known a greater cook than you. Not even old Friar Derral's cooking is better!"

Abbot Jerl smiled as he listened to the Matthias and Methuselah bells ringing out for all to hear. He sighed and began walking to Great Hall, where a grand feast was being layed out. On the way, he met up with Olaf Jugg who had just come out of the cellers, "Why 'ello Father Abbot. An' a happy Autumn nameday to ye sir!!" The old mouse chuckled at the sight of him. He was balancing a jug of Dandelion & burdock cordial on his headspikes, and his arms were full with beakers of October ale and Strawberry fizz. Jerl grabbed the jug from Olafs head before it could fall, and also a beaker of October ale, "Well Olaf, it seems as though you have your paws full today!!" The hedgehog nodded, "Aye. But 'tis all worth it for one of our good Friars feasts!!" The Abbot nodded sagely before speaking again, "Oh, and speaking of feasts. We best get to Great Hall before the dibbuns do!"

Jet stirred the pot over an open fire and then called to his three friends, "The bally soup's done, wot!" Immediatly Aubbress and Tarrow ran over and held out their bowls. The hare filled them each with large ladles full of the steaming soup. Aubbress held out an extra bowl, "For Revin. I bet he's starving!" When the others had all gotten their food, Jet filled his own bowl and went over to sit near them. He sat watching Revin eat, fussed over by the two maids. Finally he spoke, "Tarrow m'gel, come over here and leave the two blinkin' treehoppers alone, wot wot!! Besides, I want to discuss our plans." The ottermaid grinned as she plopped down beside him, "Alright, I'm here. What plans?" "The plans to get out of here, you great puddenheaded riverdog!!" She laughed, "Oh! Those plans. Well, why don't we use the material that we used as a tent to make a light stretcher? Then we can carry Revin all the way back to the abbey!" If Jet had been standing up, he would have sat down hard. As it was, he wore a shocked expression on his face, "Why didn't we think of that before?" Tarrow giggled, "Because you're a great puddenheaded foodscoffer!!"

Abbot Jerl sat proudly in his chair at the head of the table. Darrka trundled up to him and offered him the first portion of a huge Deeper 'n ever pie. Everyone held their breath as the old mouse chewed thoughtfuly. A moment later, he swallowed and called to those sitting around the table, "Eat, eat my friends! There is plenty of food for all. The creatures cheered and then began to eat in full earnest.
"Father Abbot, sir, would you please pass that beaker of strawberry cordial?"
"Of course. Oh, and do try some of this woodland trifle, 'tis the best I've ever tasted!"
"Please pass the forest salad, Senetta. That's a good little maid."
"Here you are Diviniah. Have a slice of apple pie, it's delicious!"
"I think I will, thank you. Ashe, you simply must have a bite of the nutfarls that I made!"
"Mmm!! They're good! Thank you Diviniah."
And so the meal went. When everyone had eaten their fill, they went outside for the games. All of the dibbuns wanted to take part, as did some of the elders. Sister Jessemine, the usually stern shrew who ruled the infirmery, was the most inthusiastic of all, much to the surprise of both dibbuns and elders. She was in charge of the dibbun-race.

Sister Jessamine held the red ribbon high as she looked at the dibbuns and shouted, "On your mark, get set, GO!!" She dropped the ribbon and they were off in a shot, Ashe and Senetta in the lead. Abbot Jerl smiled as he watched the other dibbuns trying hard to catch up, but to no avail. He turned to Jessamine, "Hohoho, we might as well stop the race and give them both the first place prize!!" The infirmery keeper smiled, "They don't even know what the prize will be. They just run for the sake of running." Just then Ashe came racing up, Senetta not far behind him. Neither hardly panted from exhaustion. The Abbot grinned at them and said, "I proclaim Ashe the winner!" He turned to Senetta, "Your running was fantastic. Both of you share the prize...." Just then Friar Derral rolled a cart out of the kitchen, on it was a large woodland trifle. Ashe and Senetta raced to the cart. Just before diving headfirst into it, they cried out, "Thank you Father Abbot! Thank you Friar Derral!" The two mice just looked at each other, then at Senetta and Ashe. Friar Derral was the first to speak, "They're still dibbuns in more ways then one!!"

Tarrow and Aubbress gently lifted Revin onto the makeshift stretcher, each wearing their packs already on their shoulders. Jet carried the Revin's pack since he didn't have one of his own. The four travelers then began making their way down the hill; one walking, and two carrying the other. To the otter and squirrel maids, their burden was light as a feather, so they set a fairly brisk pace. Jet panted along beside them and complained, "I say there m'chappesses. D'you think I would add much weight to the jolly load your carryin'?" Aubbress glanced at the hares stomach and made a mental note to tell him to go on a diet. She then answered his question with a glare that could have silenced a babbling brook. He fell back a few paces and muttered to himself, "Hmmph! I was only askin', wot!" Tarrow sighed, and continued walking. They were finally going back home.
