CHAPTER 22
The sun rose slowly, shimmering ghostly through the early morning mists. Revin, Aubbress, Tarrow, and Jet were all still asleep. There was the melodious twitter of a songbird, as the mist began to evaporate under the harsh brightness of the rising sun. The four travelers stirred slightly. Tarrow was the first to fully awaken. She washed her paws and face in the river, and called to the others, "Come on, mates. Time t' get up!! There's a brand new day ahead of us." Her three friends groaned, but got out of their beds and washed up in the river. Tarrow and Aubbress immediatly began to make breakfast, with the help of an inthusiastic Jet. Revin just sat in the sunshine, thinking about his dream. He finally spoke to the others as they sat down to breakfast, "Martin came to my dreams again last night. He said, 'Three friends gone, but four to return from the place of which there is no return.' He said more than that, but I can't remember it. Just that one little part." Jet looked up, "Well he jolly well means us, wot wot!" Revin nodded, "Aye. But I still wish I knew what he said after that..." Tarrow spoke kindly at him, "When I couldn't remember all that Martin said t' me, ye encouraged me. So that's wot we're bound bound ta do." She looked at Aubbress and Jet, who both nodded happily. Revin grinned, "Thanks! I feel much better now." Laughing, they began to eat.

Senetta yawned sleepily as she stepped out of her room. The sun was just barely up, casting it's golden glow across the dusty red stone of the abbey. She drew her cloak nearer as a cool breeze whipped gently around her. Her paws made no sound on the heavily dewed grass as she hurried towards the Bell tower. It was time to ring the bells for sunrise. As she tiredly pulled the bell ropes, and listened to the slightly muted ringing, she thought to herself, "Why did they pick me to do it this morning? *Yaaawn* I'm going straight back to bed when I'm finished...." Soon her job was completed, but when she lay back down in her bed, she could not sleep. She tossed and turned until she knew she had to get up or she would miss breakfast. Standing up, she grabbed the nearest tunic near her and dressed, muttering softly to herself while concentrating on tying the cord, "Why can't I sleep? Today is the beginning of the harvest, meaning there's lots of work to be done. I must have my rest to get the energy I will need." Sighing, she slipped into her sandals and went down to breakfast.

The delicious food disappeared quickly into the hungry mouths of the four companions, and soon they were all ready to leave. Tarrow and Aubbress carried Revin's stretcher while Jet walked along beside them as they climbed up the sloping hill. When they at last reached the dark pathway, Jet took the lead, watching for danger. They trecked ever onwards, longing to see the sun again, but knowing they had to continue if they ever wanted to reach the abbey. Suddenly, just when they saw the light flooding into the entrance up ahead, Jet stopped and held a paw to his lips, "Shhh!! I think we're jolly well bein' watched, wot." Tarrow and Aubbress gently put down the stretcher, each notching an arrow onto her bow. Tarrow was the first to realize what they had done wrong, and she whispered to Aubbress, "Then sweet incense you must burn, to appease the great ones wrath... We haven't burned the incense!" Revin fumbled around and brought the small box out from under his cloak, "There, now hurry!! I don't want to have survived the Place of no Return just to die on the Darkest path." Tarrow knelt down and performed the simple ritual again. Soon the sweet smell wafted up from the box. Aubbress turned to the others, "We best leave it here, since we won't be needing it again." The others agreed and soon the squirrelmaid and ottermaid were carrying the stretcher again, out into the sunlight.

Senetta bounded into Cavern Hole, seating herself hurriedly beside Ashe. She looked around at all the others and spoke, just before stuffing a honeysmeared oatmeal scone into her mouth, "'Morning everyone! I had trouble sleeping again..." Abbot Jerl smiled as he watched the squirrel bolt down her breakfast, taking a few sips from a beaker of Strawberry Cordial every now and then. Finally he asked her, "Why so much breakfast today, my child?" She stopped eating long enough to answer him, "Today is the beginning of the harvest and I need my energy to help with the work!" She bit into another scone, topped with peach preserve. Though slightly taken aback, the old mouse smiled even more and thought to himself, "It's good for one to want to help at her young a

He glanced at the others, most of which had amused looks on their faces, and then turned his attention to a large scone with meadow cream. He looked knowingly at Mother Diviniah, this was going to be the best harvest he had ever seen as Father Abbot. He was sure of it.
