Here's the summary:
Basically when Grisen wakes up, he talks to Fyrth and Fyrth tells him that the Watersinger dream was an old memroy implanted in the stones of the wall. Sarvin tells Grisen and Fyrth about a plan she has. There is this other reble named Atris. Atris was once a Falkhan and now is challenging Dama'zark again from his Fortress called the Fortress of the Fire's Embers. The Stabnars were going to crush Atris and his small army, but when Fyrth revolted, the attack was postponed. Sarvin's plan was to head for the Fortress and join up with Atris. She's not sure however, that the attack is still being held off. To make sure that they aren't heading into a trap or a war, Sarvin proposes to enter Prock and ask a Shadowrider about the plans. She figures that teh Shadowriders won't be informed about her revolt yet and that she will be in and out of Prock in a split second, just getting the info and leaving before Al'Sheen'al'Tamorac arrives. Grisen and Fyrth agree to wait for her and she heads off. (sorry if this si not clear enough. :) )
Alright...Meanwhile, in Prock....
Karnis Tran leaned unconcernedly on the long pole stuck into the ground, the hanging victim's feet level with his head. The Shadowrider yawned behind a black gloved fist and kicked the pole with an impatient thud. "She's as dead as she's ever going to be," he said, glancing up at the woman who had been hung ten minutes ago. Her face was purple and bloated, and even in death, the unfelt wind ruffled her midnight hair and cloak just as it did with him. "Cut her down and enjoy."
The Radgem surged forwards in a rustle of black cloaks, eagerly running too long tongues over glittering canine teeth. Karnis turned away as one shot up the pole like a squirrel, long nails thudding into the wood, black mane of hair rippling behind it, as it set to work severing the rope. A parting snap rang out as the fibers gave way, followed by the dull noise of a body hitting the ground. Howls of the delighted Radgem shattered the ensuing silence and the gathered crowd of the dull eyed, gaunt humans watched in horror.
The Radgem at Karnis' shoulder surged forwards to open up a path for him, though just the sight of the fearsome pair alone was all that was needed for the crowd to draw back. Karnis strode through them, the Radgem trailing behind and then they were past the humans and out into one of Prock's streets.
"Idiotic woman!" hissed Karnis as he strode ahead with quick, angry strides. "She was supposed to be one of my best Shadowriders! And yet she could not even kill this one human!"
The Radgem spoke, the words twisted by the two inch long teeth that cluttered her mouth. "She stabbed him my Lord! He's as good as dead!"
Karnis stopped abruptly and whirled upon the Night Demon in a rush of black. He struck the Radgem full in her face with a curled fist and in the same graceful movement, he tripped her. The Radgem sprawled flat on her back, eyes narrowed and shinning teeth bared. The Shadowrider took no notice. "Did she kill him Cragash? Did she really kill this Grisen? If she had, I should have found a body shouldn't I? But I didn't! Trust me, this Rolark is still alive!"
Cragash rose slowly, one side of her pale jaw beginning to darken to a bruised purple. "Forgive me my Lord."
Karnis grunted sourly. "I mean to have Grisen in my grasp! No one escapes me! That idiotic Shadowrider probably didn't even stab him! Cursed woman! No one survives the Shadow's Plague!"
Cragash's eyes glittered but she followed the Captain of the Shadowriders obediently. Karnis looked back over his shoulder at her. "Do your daily rounds and gather any information about Grisen. Family, friends, associates, anything!"
Cragash's savage yellow eyes clashed against Karnis' even more feral blue. The Radgem bowed obediently and had half turned away when Karnis spoke again.
"Oh, and for the peasant that didn't meet his quota today…."
"Yes Lord?" asked Cragash, the words sounding utterly violent emanating from her mouth.
"Take him out to lunch today, his treat." Cragash's upper lip peeled back in a hideous smile as she bowed again and turned away, her eyes already eager for the meal.
Shaking his head, Karnis stepped into the faint morning shadow of the nearest house. Immediately, he was hurtled away as if he was an arrow shot from a bow, surging gracefully into the next shadow, his next mount. Speed of reflexes was the key here, the jump from one shadow to the next was done in the blink of an eye, pulling himself up onto the back of his next ride and springing off took only two. One miscalculation would send him smashing into the houses or the ground itself from a force far faster than a galloping horse and far more unpredictable. Shadows of trees could move while he was in mid-jump, blown by a wind or a breeze and he would crash before he could do anything. But, he was an expert at this. Maybe he wasn't the most powerful Shadowrider, but he was one of the best.
Jumping into the net shadow, he stepped out calmly, not even stumbling at the change of speeds as he began to walk. He was around the side gate where the Shadowrider had presumably "stabbed" Grisen and where the accursed human had somehow managed to escape. Somehow, however, Karnis would find him. All it would take would be time and patience, two things that he had little of. If Dama'zark or his Stabnars found out that a rebel managed to escape unharmed, then things would turn very ugly very quickly for Karnis.
The side gate was devoid of its Radgem guards, as Karnis wanted to search the area himself without any mistakes. His boots crunched on the bones and the mysterious breeze danced through his cloak. Suddenly he stopped.
Blood.
Leaning down, he studied the smear of blood drops, dried and blackened on the carpet of bones. He had no way of knowing whom the blood belonged to. The Shadowrider had been stabbed as well by the human and it could just as easily have been her blood as Grisen's. Standing, Karnis kicked the bones angrily. This was getting him nowhere! His gaze flicked back up, away from the bones and then he froze, staring in horror at the black robed figure in front of him. Shinning eyes glowed amidst the deep black of the hidden face.
Karnis dropped to his knees, fear grabbing his throat. The Stabnar looked down on him from her tall height and her hand shifted slightly to the hilt of her sword. Karnis tried to speak through the waves of fear and shock, and barely managed to utter a greeting in Dama'zark's tongue without stumbling over the words. "Frendarch o'vamra Stabnar!"
The shiny eyes narrowed to slits.
'They couldn't have found out about Grisen yet!' thought Karnis. 'Not yet!' His eyes flicked to the shadow of the bones before he pulled them back up to the dark face above him. 'I wouldn't make it a step,' he thought, 'before this Stabnar Weaves.'
The eyes glittered with pleasure as if the Stabnar was reading his thoughts. As quickly as a lunging wolf, a black gloved and guantleted hand had him by the throat and was pulling him up to eye level. Is face almost touched the shadowed one inside the hood. The eyes filled his vision, shimmering green, flaming emerald and lit with the light of insanity. Cold sweat broke out on Karnis' face.
Her voice was a snarl, similar to the Radgem's but twice as sinister. "You are an idiot Tran! A damned idiot!" Her fingers seemed to be made out of iron. Karnis couldn't feel the slightest tremble in them even though pulling him up to her eye level meant hauling him several inches off the ground.
Karnis couldn't reply, he could barely breathe. Her eyes were the only things that remained vividly clear to him, his boots kicked feebly at the air, and his eyes watered. Still, she didn’t release him and he had the impression that her teeth were being bared in a smile. "You let a human escape both the Radgem and the Tamorac'jehadon! A human Tran!"
She hurled him down to the ground, face first, and he lay there gasping for breath and he lay there, gasping for breath, waiting for the slash of her blade to come down at any moment, and ignoring the blood trickling from his mouth from the impact. "Luckily for you," she spat and Karnis' hopes rose, "we caught this man right alongside the woods and we took care of him."
Karnis raised his head slightly to her crazy eyes, hope welling in his chest. "But," she said with a twisted laugh, "the next time that you fail me, fail Dama'zark…" Her sword whispered out of its scabbard with a hiss filled with just as much unspeakable danger as her laugh, and she cut the air in front of him in a vicious slash of wind.
Karnis needed no further explanation. Relief flooded through him and he bowed his head. "I won't fail again. Never again."
The sword slid back into its scabbard. "Good," the Stabnar said. "Then answer me this. Is there any change about the postponement of the attack on Atris' Fortress?"
Karnis shook his head forcefully. "None Stabnar. The attack is still held off until further orders."
The Stabnar nodded. "Stand up." Karnis levered himself up slowly and shakily until her stood looking into those savage green eyes. "Speak of this to no one!" she hissed. "No one at all!" Before he could assure her that he would never tell a soul, she turned on her heel and was gone.
Karnis staggered over to a nearby building and leaned on it heavily, sweat trickling down his face. Those eyes and their owner had been weighing him up; carrying his life around on a string and was the knife that could have cut it…Hopefully she was gone for good. Karnis didn't think that his nerves would stand another meeting like that one.
Sarvin flexed her shoulders under her cloak, a smile twisting her face and her eyes shinning. She walked across the streets, heading for a second gate to exit Prock, now that her mission had been accomplished. She saw nobody on the streets, which suited her just fine. Too many people seeing just one lone Stabnar could result in unwanted attention, especially if Al'Sheen'al'Tamorac heard of her. Still, the smile on her face led to a chuckle, despite the need for silence. "I almost forgot how much fun that was," Sarvin laughed to herself quietly. "Diminishing someone like that!" her laugh escalated. "Oh yes, being a Stabnar does have advantages! So many advantages!"
