Chapter Five
The white Toyota turned into the driveway, drove up and stopped just before the garage. Three doors opened and Shaun, Johan and Satol stepped out of their respective doors. As Johan strode around and unlocked the boot, Shaun looked up at the house. The roof was red tiles, while the rest of the house was a custard-like yellow brick. Shaun’s godparents had designed this house and had it built, and had spray-painted the bricks yellow after construction. The front door was just to the left of the garage, on the other side of a small walkway.
Shaun had always wanted to live in a two story house in which he could use both floors, especially one like this. Now he was going to. And now he could plot in privacy. Almost every door in the place could be locked.
Satol’s voce broke through Shaun’s musings. ‘Shaun, you’ll be sleeping in the upstairs spare bedroom. You know which one that is, don’t you?/
Shaun nodded. ‘Yeah, I do.’ He had been here numerous times before and knew the layout very well.
Satol smiled. ‘Okay, we’ve already set up your bed, so you can go in there and rest if you wish. We’ve got some of your belongings ready to be taken up and set up. We’ll keep bringing in the rest over the weekend.’
Johan had already taken a box into the house and was coming back out. Satol was just taking another box in. Shaun went to the boot and leaned in to get another of the four boxes, but Johan put his hand on his shoulder to stop him. ‘Don’t bother. We’ll bring it all in. You just go to your room and start setting it all up.’ Shaun nodded, walked to the house and in through the front door.
He turned left from the entry hall, walked through the loungeroom and into the main hall. He turned right, walked down the hall and then up the stairs. He then turned around, walked past the stairs and straight down the upstairs hall, passing Satol on the way. Then he took the last door on the right, entering his new room. Johan came in with the third box just behind him.
Shaun stepped out of the way, surveying the room. Johan placed the third box in line with the other two at the foot of his bed which was, as Satol said, already set up. Johan left the room again. Out the window, which was above his bed, Shaun could see part of the house next door, most of which was hidden behind an overhanging palmtree, which were popular in this and surrounding streets. He could also see a small part of the ocean, which was only a few minutes walk away.
Inside the room, there was an unadorned shelving desk in front of his bed and a cupboard with a mirror door on the far wall. There was also a small bedside table with three drawers. Apart from that, the room was bare.
Shaun went and lay on the bed, awaiting the arrival of the next three boxes. Satol soon appeared with the fourth box and, within three minutes, she and Johan had appeared with one more box each. Then, apart from the faint sound of conversation emanating from the kitchen downstairs, Shaun was by himself in a silent room.
Shaun stood and opened the first box. It was full of clothes, so Shaun moved it into a corner to be dealt with later. He did likewise with the second box upon finding it full of school material. In the third box was some of his Lego. He set his favourite models, including a few Bionicles, upon the central shelf. The fourth box had his books, of which he placed his Lord of the Rings, Tomorrow, When the War Began and Harry Potter sets on the top shelf. He had only four of the five currently released Harry Potter books, as he had not yet been bothered to go and buy the fifth. He then put this box and the Lego box next to the desk.
In the fifth box was his remote control car and aeroplane. He placed these on opposite sides of the bottom shelf, along with their remotes. He put this box with the third and fourth. In the final box, Shaun found a mixed selection of his possessions. He found only two he currently wanted. He put his alarm clock on the bedside table and his plush dog on the bed. He then joined it, lying on his right side on the bed, facing the wall with the cupboard and closing his eyes.
He lay there for a moment, then opened his eyes, swiveled his head and looked at the time. It was 10:42, meaning he had been awake for near two and a half hours. Although it did not seem to be that long, he was tired anyway, which we found slightly amazing. He turned his head back and closed his eyes again.
Then he got to thinking of his family. He knew he would miss playing with his sister, even though this was hard to do in the first place, and also playing with his father, and it was unlikely that he would ever see his mother again. A single tear rolled down his cheek and was absorbed into his pillow. He was upset, but he knew the deed had to be done.
Soon, he was snoring quietly.

I'll send a map of the house that i drew up soon.
