Darlene was satisfied to find that the trees were beginning to thin"Finally! I was beginning to think I was actualy lost!"she laughed.
To Darlene's dismay, it was not but a clearing in the woods. She was about to out about being lost, when her eyes widened in horror. There, in the clearing, was a huge massacre. Dead bodies were lying on the ground, the trees stained with blood. A massive badger, not unlike herself, lay dead among slain rats, ferrets, and other types of vermin. Another badger sat at the foot of a tree. It was a young one, far from dibbunry yet a ways untill adulthood. It was a female one; her fur pure black, her eyes a peircing blue.
"Uh, hello? Um are you allright?"Darlene asked uncertainly, stepping over the carnege. The black badger looked up at her. She shook her head,"No." She looked back to the ground.
Darlene was infront of her now. Confusion and pity was etched on her face,"Uh, what happened?" She asked kindly.
"Battle," Darlene was getting impatient with her. Why darlene was getting impatient was a mystery."well, no use staying around here. Come on! I'l take you to Redwall. You'll feel better there; I promise." Darlene held out her massive paw. The younger one took it and stood up, slumping.
Leading the way, Darlene tried cheering the mysterious and sad badger by singing and humming silly tunes. It was no use. The other badger was stubborn in her greif. Darlene took another shot at cinversation,"So, do you have a name? I'm Darlene!"
"Name's Coggera Blackstripe," she muttered. Darlene was cheered by this,"Well Coggera, it's lovely to meet you!" Both walked into the woods, on their way to redwall.
