Subject: Second one. (That's it; I started four, but only these two had enough questions to ask the baddies.)

In reply to: Checkery 's message, "Firts Interview" on 19:46:44 12/14/03 Sun

Young Mekerian, our brave interviewer, will now venture back to Hellgates in search of Slagar the Cruel.

"Come on, Mek, you did it before." Mekerian stayed where he was. "I don't want to. It's scary!" I sighed. Drastic measures would have to be taken. I grabbed his ear and marched him forward. "You little scamp! Do I have to do everything around here? Look, this time I'll ask with you." The evil form of Vulpuz became alert. "You again? What is it this time, riverdog?" Mekerian wrapped himself around my leg fearfully. I spoke to the wolf. "I hate to stoop so low as to talk to you, but Mekerian here wishes to interview the fox, Slagar the Cruel." Vulpuz's ax blade came within a hairsbreath of my foot. When I didn't flinch, he smirked at me. "Not afraid, eh? Then to be sure, you can do what you like here. Slagar it is then!" The gates of fire opened again, and now Slagar appeared from them. He had no mask, so he looked hideous. I grabbed his arm. "Aha! Just the deadbeast we've been looking for. Let's go!"

Slagar came with us. I also unwrapped Mek from my leg. "There you are, Mek. Don't show any fear, that's the trick. You can start now." Slagar, like Cluny, was puzzled. "What's going on?" Mekerian got business-like now, whipping out his notepad and pencil. "Well, I and my friend there do interviews. I thought you may have heard from Cluny...Anyway, I was just wondering if I could ask a few questions." Slagar grinned. "Aye, ask away!"

Mekerian:How did you first find out about the kingdom of Malkariss?
Slagar:They had a slaving band before I came along. I met up with them, and they told me all about Malkariss. I joined, and once we were over there, I slew their leader. It was troublesome to get an audiance with Malkariss, but I managed to get myself as their official slaver.
Mekerian:Why did you change your name after your snake incident?
Slagar:Once I had survived that, I knew I wasn't the old Chickenhound any more, so I changed it.
Mekerian:How did you find vermin for your slaving band?
Slagar:I had to add them, at first, one by one. Most were poor travelers, others had been outcasts from local vermin tribes, and a few were horde deserters. I told them of easy pickings, and vast riches if they would follow me. Most joined willingly, and others I had to use force. In other words, it was join or die.
Mekerian:How did you hear of Mattimeo?
Slagar:At first, I'd no clue when I went to Redwall. But when I first sent Vitch, he told me everything. I knew that he would be the prize.
Mekerian:How did you meet Stonefleck?
Slagar:They had always lived there, on the cliffs and by the river. One day I met with their leader and told him that if he killed anybeast following us he'd recieve payment in any plunder my band had once I'd finished them off.
Mekerian:Why did you always kill your band once you got to Malkariss?
Slagar:They wouldn't have recieved any plunder at all, and I wouldn't want them to shout it out all around the world. Also, Nadaz and his rats didn't want any of them alive to wander around and possibally stumble upon Malkariss.
Mekerian:How did you figure you were going to die?
Slagar:If it wasn't living out my life in luxery, I may've thought some bunch of angry parents or another would catch me someday.
Mekerian:Where did you get your mask from?
Slagar:Stole the silk off a bunch of hedgehogs on my first slaving trip and had one of my band do the rest.

Mekerian put away his notepad and pencil. "That'll be all." Slagar trembled a bit. "I don't want that to be all..." Mek shrugged. "Too bad, Slagar." Vulpuz hulked behind the fox. "Come on, you!" As Slagar was dragged, screaming, to Hellgates, Mekerian called after him. "Be sure to tell the other baddies that I might interview them sometime!" He grinned at me. "I hope I did good." I scanned his notepad and gave a thumbs up. "Yup, this'll be great. Everybeast will love it. Good job, Mek!"
