Prologue
I was running, running and I couldn't stop. My legs refused to be still. I ran until THE THING stopped. We were in the middle of the forest, and, although it appeared to be daytime, the tall trees shaded the area densely. THE THING
turned around, the area lit up suddenly, and I screamed.
Chapter 1
Awake. I was awake. Thank goodness. That dream was horrible.
The thing's face was mangled and covered in blood! Uggghh...
And I know it's gonna come true. My dreams always do. I had first realised I was 'special' as my psychologist puts it,
one night when I had a dream about a man digging a grave.
A few days later, a close friend of mine died. Sometimes I
dream the actual event, sometimes something hinting about it. One time I dreamt about a television show. It was a
brand-new episode, never shown before. I went downstairs,
and the smell of bacon greeted me. Grandpa started filling
a plate with the 'bubbly pig snout' and handed it to me.
I refused it. "Grandpa, you know I'm a vegitarian. Bacon is
NOT roasted bell peppers and grilled tomatoes with peanut sauce, the same breakfast salad I've been eating for the past three YEARS," I reminded him gently. He was very old,
and he was living his last year at home instead of the hospital. He had lieukemia, and his immune system had
stopped responding to treatment. Dr. Van Dopf said his white blood cells were eating him from the inside out. I didn't want him to die, I had already lost my parents to a car accident, and Na-Ni to a heart attack. He was my last living relative, and when he dies I'll have to go live with
people I don't know. "Just teasing you, Lu Loo," he said.
"Poppa, I am not Na-Ni Luanne, I am Kat," I said. He had mistaken me for Grandma. He hadn't done that since he...
Omigod! "Poppa, are you alright?" I asked urgently. "I'm fine, Lu Loo...AAAGGH!" He yelled, clutching his chest.
I took a deep breath and telephoned an ambulance.
End of part one.
