Wandering wandering is my joy. Corinne was excited. She had been an orphan for as long as she could remember. Her late mother had no family. Her father had a sister who had settled in Castle Darkstar and had had one daughter, Leira. But, Corinne had gotten news that Castle Darkstar had burned down. Corinne lived in Lancepaw’s Fort with her best friend Waterlily, but she couldn’t help missing family. Corinne was excited. But then, Lavena had shown up. Lavena was, like Corinne, a foxmaid. She had neutral brown fur and dull blue eyes. Lavena was much younger than Corinne, but Corinne took a liking to her. Lavena kept talking about her mother and Corinne was curious. She asked who Lavena’s mother was. Lavena had said her name was Leira Moonmyst. Corinne was excited. Corinne had remembered that her supposedly dead cousin’s name was Leira. Lavena went on to say that Leira and her husband had lived in Castle Darkstar until it burned down. Leira and Morro were the only survivors. They had fled and built Fort Moonmyst and changed their last names. Lavena and her brother Vaurice were their children. Corinne was excited. Lavena had gone wandering and came upon Lancepaw’s Fort. Corinne wanted Lavena to guide her to Fort Moonmyst. Lavena agreed. Corinne was excited. The only beast they had told of their departure was Corinne’s best friend Waterlily. Waterlily’s parents had adopted Corinne as a Dibbun. Corinne was excited. Lavena had written a note and tied it to the gate of Lancepaw’s Fort before leaving. Strong winds had blown it away. Corinne was excited. They’d walked in the direction of Redwall Abbey, hoping to reach soon. Corinne was excited. To pass time, Corinne sang a song that had been one of her mother’s favorites: Wandering, wandering is my life song. Wandering, wandering is my joy.
