Surely, whoever she was, she wasn't supposed to be bound up like this. And there was nobeast around at all. Staring around her, she could only see a weak, blackened, crumbling tent which held her. The squirrelmaid smelled smoke, and the stink of scorched flesh. Struggling, striving, trying to remember...but there was nothing, only a grey mist which she wallowed in. The squirrelmaid backed herself up against a blackened tent pole, only to have it fall out from under her, crumbling a section of canvas. Her scream was muffled through her gag. She had fallen upon the burnt carcass of a weasel! Her legs were tied together, but she still managed to scramble backwards, away from the grisly object.
