Subject: *guilty look* Yes, I know. But corsairs aren't always amazingly thorough, so I guess I could get away with that. Maybe they're all wimps and can't lift it long enough to get it over the railing ;-)....Anyway, next part inside!

Kyre managed to catch a few minute's sleep on the way to the shore. The sea otter awoke when the anchor shuddered slightly. Quickly he moved to the side closer to the ship's hull, just in case somebeast happened to look over the railing to check the anchor's progress. Foot by foot he dropped until he could let go of the anchor and tread water. Still keeping close to the ship, he waited until shouts and orders told him that most of the crew was onshore looking for food and slaves.
"Get on there, ye swabs!"
"Don't come back 'till yore staggerin' unnner th'weight o' food, y'hear?"
After the cursing and bellowing had died down, Kyre set his claws into the boatsides, climbing up to the oarholes down the boat's sides. It wasn't a long climb, but the watertight vessel didn't provide many clawholds. The sea otter held on, paws in one of the holes, panting after his immense effort.
A thin paw brushed his from the inside of the ship. "Ach! 'Tis paws, m'lads! Eh, who's there?"
"My name is Kyre Kelpblade. I'm a sea otter. Hmm, y'sound like you're from the northlands, matey."
A weak sigh came from within. "Aye, y'have me there. Ah'm Boundscut, former leader o' me tribe o' hares. We've been under th'paws o' these vermin fer aboot seven seasons, me lad."
Kyre adjusted his grip. "That's horrible! How big is your tribe, if y'can crew a whole galley?"
"Burr, thurr ain't just hares in yurr, zurr," piped an emaciated voice. "Oi be Grubber, 'n oi'm wi' twennyfoive creeturs from th' Mossyflower area, hurr aye."
"Isn't there a way to get y'out?" Kyre asked, his sympathy going out to the overstressed beasts within.
"Oy, you bunglepaws ain't talkin' down there, are ye?" growled a rough voice from above.
The northern hare's voice came back to the sea otter, quieter than before. "Nay, we're too closely guarded. Bu' if'n ye have an idea we could try...ootside o' mutiny, o'course...then we'd do our best t'try..."
Kyre nodded. "All right. My arms are gettin' tired so I'll have to drop back down. But I'll try to think of somethin', okay?"
The hare's paw touched his again with a rattle of chains. "Then get ye down an' think. Good luck, laddie..."
Kyre let himself drop, trying not to make too loud of a splash. Just to be sure, he waited underwater until he was sure any checking guards hadn't seen him. The sea otter swam back to the anchor chain and waited until he could hear the returning vermin.

Quee, very nicely done. You managed to pull off the northern/scottish accent quite well, something I'm never really able to do. ^^; Good job; nice building of the plot. ( (NT)Retina18:48:46 03/12/03 Wed
