In reply to: Dakkan, who actually finished a story (unlike the one back at Calyn...) 's message, "*winces* Ow! Too late, I've already (ow!) written it! It was MEANT to be a short story! (eech! aaugh!) Anyway, I still don't have a good title for it, maybe somebeast else will...last part INSIDE! *throws down his quill triumphantly*" on 02:07:11 05/20/03 Tue

Many of the corsairs wailed in protest as their precious ship smashed its front end in on the unforgiving rock. This rapidly turned into a howl of anger, and the wavebeasts lost no time in seizing their weapons and going after Kyre and Ferkah.
Nearly a score and a half slaves burst on deck at that moment to help their companions. Grubber and his moles battered at their foes armed only with mangled wood spars and digging claws, while the hares kicked savagely with considerable footpaws. Many received minor wounds from vermin blades and spears, but their wave was too swift and powerful; the ship was taken and all wavebeasts unconscious in less than five minutes.
As the slaves took the corsairs’ weapons and bound them paw and claw, Grubber confronted Kyre at the ship’s bow. “Zurr, whurr do us’n’s be goin’? Us’ll sink in ‘lil whoile.”
Kyre knew the mole was right. “Ferkah, I’ll help ye with the tiller. Everybeast else, get below deck an’ back oars until I whistle. Then row forward as hard as y’can – we need to find a place t’land before we go under!”
The slaves were much more willing to row now that they were free. Grasping the oars, they took the vessel back from the cliff face.
Ferkah turned to Kyre. “Which way?”
“Right,” replied Kyre. He stuck a claw in his mouth and let forth a shrill whistle.
Boundscut kept the beat with his heavy footpaw as the rowers reversed direction.
Ferkah kept as close to the cliff as he could to keep the travel distance to a minimum. “I can’t see anyplace to go,” he muttered worriedly.
A muffled shout arose from below the deck. “Ach!! W’need t’get a move on it, d’ye ken…th’water’s comin’ in through th’ oarholes, lads!” roared one of the hares.
Kyre’s eye caught something on the endless wall of rock. “Ferkah, see that dark shadow? It’s prob’ly a cove, make for it!” The sea otter rushed below deck, where the rowers were sitting in two feet of water. “There’s a cove up ahead; make every second count!” Kyre took off and joined Ferkah to help him maneuver the ship into the tight space.
After a narrow waterway flanked on both sides by high vertical cliffs, Kyre could see the land level out to grassy fields and a sandy beach. “Almost there!” bellowed the sea otter. He and Ferkah lashed the tiller in place and used two long punting poles to aid the wallowing vessel’s progress.
Boundscut came up on deck with the hares and the moles from below, wringing water from his ears. “We c’n nae more move th’oars, an’ the smaller ‘uns are like t’droon, th’water’s so high.”
Grubber noticed the ship was only about halfway to the beach. “Be us’n’s goin’ t’die, zurr? Oi doan’t think ee shipper’ll make et!”
One of the moles covered his eyes in distress. “Hurr, oi cain’t swim!”
Kyre was tempted to put aside his pole when suddenly the vessel ground to a shuddering halt. Leaning over the rail, the sea otter let out a great whoop of joy.
Ferkah tossed his pole away and joined his friend. “What’s the bally whoopin’ for, wot? It’s still a jolly long way to th’shore and we hit a sandbar?! What’s so bloomin’ excitin’?”
Kyre laughed and ruffled the hare’s ears. “No! This shore has an abnormally long shallows, after which it drops off almost vertically into really deep water. We’ll be able to pull the craft all the way up t’the beach and repair ‘er, matey. The water’s only about two feet deep from here!”
The slaves broke into cheers and woke the corsairs, who hissed and growled to themselves as they struggled in their bonds.

After two weeks of reprovisioning and repairs, the freed creatures set sail in their new ship, leaving behind the vanquished wavebeasts. They sailed by old charts and maps for a very special destination.

Kyre swung down from the crow’s nest. “Land ho!”
Ferkah peered out to sea. “Y’sure?”
The sea otter chuckled. Surely yer jokin’. It’s hard to miss a mountain practically sittin’ on the tideline!”
Ferkah leapt up, shouting. “Eulaliaaaaaaaaaaa! The great whackin’ mountain, wot? Salamandastron hooooooooo!”
Boundscut looked curiously at the celebrating hare. “Salawot? This is the place y’said would be our new home, aye?”
Grubber clapped his digging claws excitedly. “Yurr, an’ then us’ll be bound fer Mossyflower an’ Reeedwaaaaaaall!”
Kyre glanced quizzically at the mole. “Redwall, what sort o’place is that, matey? Is it nice?”
Grubber winked happily. “Burr, ee’ll see!”

*Dakkan rolls up the scroll and downs a draught of strawberry cordial to wet his throat.* The end! Well, what d’ye think, mates?
