Questions shot like bullets, threatening to harm her stay. No, she was not ready to leave. Not yet. Perhaps, not ever. “I have lived in Cascade Mountains my entire life,” she states, mimicking his removed attitude for the moment. “Much longer than you, I assume based on my previous travel in these parts.”

Calm, collected...drag racing thoughts of deception. Conflicting interest not to exposure, yet not to lie. Difficult, but do-able in the range of the specific questions asked. “Where do you come from, Big Brother?”
