Subject: Durga Mata again
In reply to: Brian - 22 Sep 2001 's message, "Is Daya Mata a Usurper?" on 12:22

Brian,
I realise that you are only repeating what you have read, so please understand that there are those who would like you to believe Durga Mata was mistreated and held in virtual solitary confinement. Some people have a vested interest in trying to pretend that the "Daya Dynasty" has crushed all opposition. Then Mr Walters expulsion from SRF can be regarded as just another injustice from Sri Daya Mata and her followers.

Do you actually have any evidence of Durga Mata's isolation? Did you ever actually try to contact her?

Durga Mata was asked to accept the role of President of SRF after the passing of Rajasi Janakananda. She turned down the role and herself suggested that Daya Mata should be the next president. Far from being herded into the background she continued as a member of the SRF Board of Directors until 1986 when she chose to retire for health reasons. She was also active as an SRF minister until her failing health did not permit it. In the Spring 1984 issue of SRF's magazine she is listed as an "Ordained Minister of Confirmed Active Status". She continued to take classes and conduct ceremonies until her health prevented her. Durga Mata was a member of the Board of Directors who voted for Kriyananda's expulsion in 1962. She remained loyal to SRF and lived as a monastic until the end of her life.

Durga Mata passed away in 1993 and at her memorial service Sri Daya Mata said "There were just a handful of us disciples here in those early years. Being two of the younger ones, Durga Ma and I formed a bond that lasted throughout our lives." In her own book Durga Mata writes of the close relationship between herself and Sri Daya Mata.

I cannot find any evidence of the supposed mistreatment and isolation (other than that which she wished for as her health failed) of Durga Mata. It seems to me that this is just another example of distorted information being put on the internet by those with ulterior motives.
