They had alot of beautiful ladies in the presentation including MT&TU2004 1st RU, Priya, Miss Caricom 2007, one semifinalist from the 2006 edition of MT&T, and another 2 semifinalists from the MT&TW07 pageant (not counting Priya).

This is just a reminder to all of us that if we really want T&T to win MW or MU anytime in the near future we need to get ladies who could compete with beautiful women like this. I don't even think she is the best one in the Miss Venezuela 2009 pageant. There were a few beautiful black ladies but Osmel has already started eliminating them-he already dropped 2 of them from the sashing (one of them looked really good). They had a very modelesque black girl with short hair who I thought could pull a surprise win and she did not even make it to the sashing. This is what PE&A have to contend with. Osmel knows it is difficult for black women to win or even place so he does not want them in his competition. Remember he spends about US$50,000 to prepare each lady by the time the Miss Venezuela finals (YES THE LOCAL FINALS) are held-that's more than PE&A's budget to outfit, train and send our rep to MU or MW.

This is the frontrunner for MVU09-tall and georgeous!

...the very matured nip and tuck crew of the Latinas. We cannot afford to waste Makeda O'Neil. She needs to go to MU.

It will be hard to find a better looking lady for MU09.

...arrives in the Ukraine ready to compete-yes for the crown-but more importantly for the regional title because if she cannot win that then it is over. Missosology may have her ranked the highest regionally but I think she is going to have to bring her "A" game to beat DR and Bahamas (who is training like crazy in PR). If she gets complacent by even thinking she is better than them then then she will lose. Her gown, walk, body and especially interview need to be on-point if she wants to be top 3 for MW08. She needs to win the regional title to be top 5.

It`s really fun to see how some people from other Caribbean islands tear down other to make themselves look good. Jamacia has not a chance in hell of placing and if they do we know whats up. Go Trinidad, Bahamas and Dominican Republic and Aruba one of them should take it this year.

...I dear say that all 7 ladies at MT&TW/U08 were better in terms of beauty than all 16 of their MJW08 finalists. Anyways, they always want to hate T&T. I could not believe how low they stooped when basically they got upset that Miss World 2008 visited our country-I mean, when last did a MW ever visit our country prior to this year-you would think they would be happy for us but no-they always have something negative to say, even about beautiful Zi Lin.

...PE&A have earned at least 1 international placement-the pressure is on Gabby now to deliver. Considering the size of T&T's population and the fact that we don't have this 'culture of beauty' that Venezuela and PR have and that our reps. usually don't have any plastic surgery-this is a very impressive track record.

Peter Elias along Wyatt (Anya's bf) are two of the judges. BQ wise I would love to see more of Christelle Seerattan, Giselle Assing and Cabrini Foncette (looks like 6' tall). Did not even recognise Kerry-Ann Murphy-she looks hot but from last year I thought she looked bottom heavy. I wonder if she toned up since then.

Trinidad and Tobago, Bahamas and Dominican Republic. Miss PRW08 looks horrible to say the least. I don't think Winela has a chance of saving her from missing the finals. Gabby's wardrobe, walk, gown and interview have to be on point if she plans to win this thing. If she wins the regional title then she will be top 3. A win is not out of the question.

I mean the only kinda negative thing i can say about her is that i wish she were a bit taller. but i don`t think that will stop her. tall girls don`t always win, and i think with her confidence, amazing body and superb runway skills she will be just fine.

...she may be short but this is MW not MU. If thunder thighs don't prevent a lady from being top 3 in BB then it is open game for anyone. I am glad to see that she has a very tapered look-broad shoulders, her midsection looks tight and her legs look slim and sexy-can't wait to see her gown. The MJW08 semifinalists are by all intents and purposes mediocre. If this was the MT&T slate then I would tell Peter to send them all home and skip one year at the int'al event. It is so ridiculous the double standard shown on Missosology. I don't know what it is but for a MT&T everyone feels like it is a free for all when it comes to saying negative things about our reps. They are always more that happy to put down our reps. Now Jamaica has a disastrous slate and no one has anything harsh to say-they all waiting on the transformation-what they going to kill a supermodel and put Jade's head on her body?

The only one that turned up prepared to compete is Chaka who apparently they don't like. Anyways, they reaping what they have been sowing.

I like the young lady in blue the most and then the lady in green. The lady in the reddish costume is alright but I am not blown away. Anyways, if this was how the top 3 at MT&T2009 looked I would be happy. The lady in blue just has a certain quality about her that makes you want to see more of her.

Strangely enough, I have not seen any pics of dark skinned models who look like they could be BQ material lately.

...so she is probably part Asian so I wonder how tall she is-at least she looks a couple of inches taller than Gabby. Peter is affiliated with Tribe and to be quite honest I really think he should ask Jade to screen. She really looks like she could do well at MU. Everyone else from the Tribe presentation could go home but this young lady is georgeous. Very good potential I believe!

What's up my pageant family!!!!! Gabby looks good in those band launching pics. Trini77 I am just not seeing the thickness you are talking about??? To me she looks very fit and I like her body type.

Thanking you for posting the Miss Venezuela contestant as a reminder of what we are up against. As I said b 4 no one under 5'9 and between the the ages of 18 - 24. The last time that a miss universe was 25 and up was Brooke and Wendy 26 and 25 and Trump quickly made sure all his winners at Miss Universe have been 18 - 24.

Trini77 thanks for the posts and please e-mail me so that we can meet up sometime since we r both in new york.My e-mail again is d_trini_woman@yahoo.com

Ah drop yuh ah line. Reply to the email so I could get in touch with you. Anyways, I kinda posted the best pics of Gabby. There are a few from the band presentation that are not impressive at all...so the comment about thickness is actually related to the pics I did not post-I think she looks fine fine in the ones I posted so that is why I put them on the forum. Anyways, I totally agree with you on Gabbby's body-she has a really toned look and her skin looks flawless so even though she is short I am very interested in seeing how well she does in the BB competition. She could be a big hit or hot make it but I am hoping for the former. Our girl just looks very fit.

I agree with you about the taller the better and it would be nice to have someone under 24 but I still think it is a good idea to leave it open to 25 year olds. Let's be honest-Wendy was a freakin' exceptional find-at 35 and over she still looks like if we sent her to MU09 she would make top 5 based on EG and SS. We just need to have a girl with the right looks first and foremost-because Trump don't care how intellegent the lady is. Of course PE&A are going to train her well so she will be able to speak well but MU is about 90% beauty and if the young lady cannot be on point for EG and SS then forget about winning and in my opinion forget about turning up because I am not interested in any MT&T who goes to the international event to just make up numbers.

As I said b/4-the only call back should be Makeda O'Neil-with the right packaging she could be top 15.

Oh my. I just went off on "Shelley" on the Missosology board. She has made 11 posts to date claiming she is Gabby's neighbour and she had nothing good to say about her. She had acutally just eased up on Gabby and I just went off on her because she had posted lies previously. Really, people let's keep it real-not every MT&T semifinalist will be genuinely nice- at least we know Peter will fire any MT&T winner who is a horror. I hate this small island mentality where you need to be jealous of someone else's success because essentially that is it.

I am so happy for this voyforum. Alot of people on Missosology are 2-faced and if they are not they don't have a backbone to stand up for the right thing.Essentially nothing has changed-people are always going to hate on MT&T-it is only now they try to sugar coat it.

I have only a couple friends on Missosology who visit that forum infrequently. I am so grateful to John that I can always come home on this forum and be myself and just relax.

You know what I was too mean. I just deleted the post. I think we should just ignore them and keep supporting our girl 100% and not get distracted with people who just looking for a fight. I love my MT&TW08. I don't care if she has the most beautiful body in the pageant or the worst body-she has good character and seems like a genuine person-I'll take that over beauty with brains to match and a stink attitude. We need our MT&T to be good people first and foremost-book sense and looks don't make people nice-Trust me I am talking from experience.

I shall call Gabby "Miss Thickness." Well I see Gabby did not get any breast implants. She does not look fantastic but then again when Valene modeled carnival costumes last year she just looked O.K. However, Peter was at this event. I hope he looked at how Gabby walked-I wish Gabby had done some better poses thought-she is MT&T and pretty soon the pics will be up on the messageboards all over.

Gabby honey, you are short-why the heck are you stooping in one pic? The MW2008 beach beauty is going to be interesting-will Gabby be a hit or a miss? I prefer my MT&T ladies slimmer and curvier and yes...taller but Gabby has a body that people are going to talk about-whether they hate it of love it-no other delegate has Gabby's toned look. She has a face of a winner that is sweet and kind. She could be a big hit and at the same time she may not even place-the thing is she has potential but she is certainly not a safe beauty. The only "safe" beauty I thought we have ever had was Heidi Rostant-she was what most people could appreciate-what a disappointment she screwed up the prelim interview.

Anyways, I know Gabby is going to take us for an exciting ride from the time she lands in the Ukraine.

i like her look. OK she is not tall...we know this, however she has a very toned but curvy body. Very pretty face, great hair. with the right look, a fierce catwalk and good interview skills she will be in the top at the MW.Dont know why but i feel alot better about her chances than I did about Anya.I dont think u can really judge by the carnival costumes pics. same with valene last year.it just has so much going on in the pic.hopefully peter and crew will start releasing more photos soon!

...when we were not placing at all in the semis/finals-then Peter Elias strolls in 1994-one year later he basically on his own convinces Arlene Peterkin to enter and T&T finally have only its second placement at MU since it's inception. People all across the world know that our pageant company figure head-Peter Elias-has no time to waste-he wants a competitor or don't bother to show up. Regardless of if you hate Peter or love him like family, T&T has had its most succesful era at these pageants when Peter entered the scene. Auntie Kim planted the seed and Peter has cultivated what grew out of it.

People MW is no MU-we all know how upredictable it could be. Do I think Gabby has no chance to win-absolutely not-she has the face of a winner and if her interviews go well she could very well be Queen of the Caribbean. Jamaica is scrambling to get a rep to compete with the 2 countries they like to pong from the Caribbean-Bahamas and Trinidad and Tobago. They are going to hate on both but moreso with T&T because of PE&A's track record.

Anyways, for those takin Gabby for granted, here is a quote of one Jamaican poster on the Jamaican star forum when speaking about MJW08 frontrunner Jade:

"Has anyone seen Gabrielle Walcott?? Ok.. now ask yourself, is Jade a contender? Uhm.. no!"

People whether or not Gabby makes the finals or not-she is a competitor and has the potential to go very far in the competition. She is no Nicole Dyer or Nasma Mohammed who I knew from the start would not make the semis at their international competitons. Gabby has great potential so get ready for the excitement of Gabby in Ukraine. I am not saying she will win but she definitely could win depending on the judging panel.

Well we are on the last lap b/4 MW kicks off. MWorg finally removed the 2007 delegate photos so I guess pretty soon they will start uploading the MW08 delegate photos.
I think there are usually 5 big favorites for the crown and about 5-10 others who could win-of which I think Gabby is one of the latter.
Spain, Slovak Republic, Ukraine, Russia, Bahamas and T&T look like they belong in this elite top 15 possible winner group, although I still need to see more of Bahamas. I also like Phillipines (maybe I may change my mind), Angola and France. I did not like SA at MU and so I don't like her at MW-for me Angola is better.
Two delegates I think we know will be in the semis are yawns for me PR and Venezuela who I really would not miss from the semis-beautiful yes but not very impressive-both look like "old" beauties (like they are in their 30's) and I don't like Venezuela's coconut breasts-these people really overdo the plastic=beautiful thing.

O.K my fellow T&T nationals, Adrian has already said that they know that they are going to look at what went wrong, what is needed for the next MT&TU screening and they will do what they have to do.

Please stop saying harsh things about Anya-O.K. let's say she placed 80th out of 80 competitors-regardless, she represented us splendidly and gave her best. I love her as MT&TU08. We gave critical comments during the pageant but there is now no need to try to insult or attack her. She did her best and apparently it was not enough for the judges. I am sure she grew as a person from this experience and PE&A will grow from this experience-I think it will force them to take a better look at themselves and what is required to really continue successfully in this business. I think we should officially start talking about Gabby and give critical comments (in love) where needed.
PC I hope you feel better about the situation soon. You have been such a wonderful voice on the forum for so many months and I do enjoy reading your posts. I really do feel alot of peace about the entire situation. We just need to learn from this experience and move on-we don't have time to get stuck in one place-it is just not healthy.

Here are some pics of Gabby during beautiful Zi Lin's visit to our shores. I think our Miss World 2007 is so georgeous-China really deserved the title. I think Gabby is a top 15 possibility for MW2008:

Wow! Miss World looks really "old ladyish" in these photos. What is she wearing? This is why I prefer MU over MW, MU is so much more stylish. China is really tall, she is wearing flats and is still towering over them.

I am not liking Gabby's hair in these photos and I do wish she was taller but she is a pretty girl. Lets see her transformation for Miss World. Go Gabby!

Gabrielle is definitely beautiful. No doubt about that. From what I have seen she does have one of the prettiest faces selected so far from the delegates. But, she is really short. How tall is she?, She looks even shorter than Anya. I would really like to see a newer picture of her to see if she slim down a bit. But, I do expect her to do well.

I think Katrina is the only lady from T&T that I can recall that PE&A have sent to 2 regional pageants. I wish they would release height measurements of all MT&T entrants. I still really love Katrina's look (I know I am probably the only one on here that does but that is o.k). If she lost an addtional 10lbs from where she was at MC2007 then I thinkk she would be ready to compete with the best in the world. However, my biggest concern is her height. We can't afford to send a short delegate who would simply get lost onstage with other ladies because of her height.

I think regional pageants would be her thing. she is just not good enough for MW or MU in my view.

I think this gown is soooo beautiful. Maggies presentation was amazing. But looking at it now im not sure if its suitable for a pageant. Maggie worked it, but hmm......
But I must say I prefer this gown on Maggie than Katrina.
same with anyas gown. Nice! cute....but it didn't have that impact on the stage.

...you are so correct! If we have to put a young lady in a gown with alot of material she has to be tall for us to even think she will have a change of making a great impact. For Maggie at MU05-I believe this gown was totally wrong. If I had to think of the best gown that every embodied T&T it would be this gown but for me it was not pageant appropriate-for her entire walk during the finals I was looking at her feet and the long train of the gown wondering if she would trip. How the heck then could the judges "see" Maggie if we Trinis who are accustomed, with the outlandish, flashy and unsual, can't even focus on the lady-she was out of the top 10 the minute I realized how much material was in the train. I hope we never see that nonsense again.

Nevertheless, Maggie nailed her walk-if it was really the "walk" and how well the lady "carries the gown" then Maggie should have been top 5 easily in EG but she was 14th overall-while both do contribute to the score-most importantly I think the judges need to see how beautiful and confident the LADY looks in it and Maggie's gown was all all about the 8ft train of fabric than her.

yes, Maggie worked that gown like crazy right. And so much material and she didnt even trip..She had an amazing walk. She is one of my fav Miss Tnt`s (of recent times) along with Margot and Faye (ok and Heidi and Alexia too....Ok i love ALL our Miss tnts). But this gown was just wrong for the finals. Ditto about Faye`s gown. I dont think it was ugly, as folks do, she also carried it well....but I think she needed a more va-va-voom! look.
Maybe we should take the same route as Venezuela and go for simple, classic gowns that fit the body right. I mean this seems to work for us...(Wendy or Danielle for example).

I also think Maggie's gown was lovely (a lot of other pageant fans loved it too). Maggie worked it well and she had the height to carry it (I believe she is 5'10"). Katrina in my opinion is pretty but seems way too short and she would need a complete makeover to be even considered, her current look is suitable for regional pageants not international ones.

Frankly speaking I am not too happy with girls under 5'8" but I know some of them sometimes make it at MU and MW. I wish Gabby was taller but she is pretty and has an intensity in the eyes that I really like.

Peter disappointed with Miss Universe judging
By VERDEL BISHOP Wednesday, July 23 2008

Miss Universe franchise holder, Peter Elias, has expressed disappointment over this year’s Miss Universe pageant judging in Vietnam.

Elias told Newsday he felt confident that this country’s representative, Anya Ayoung-Chee should have been among the top five finalists and described the judging process as subjective.

“I wish Trinidad and Tobago could have seen Anya in Vietnam. After the pageant, Miss Venezeula and Miss Colombia also expressed their disappointment. They too, expected TT in the top five with them. They too, wanted to know what happened,” Elias said.

Elias added that in his 15 years of involvement with the pageant, this is the first time he has written to the organisation to try to determine what went wrong, however, he is still waiting on a response.

“I am disappointed because we gave our best; the entire team really worked hard. In our judgement and in the judgement and opinion of others while we were there, and based on the positive feedback, we felt confident that this country would have done well.

“Anya is very intelligent, vibrant and amazing. She worked really hard and was very prepared. She deserved it and I had high expectations because of her performance,” Elias said.

Elias said Ayoung-Chee will return to TT in a couple weeks, as she deserves a little time to breathe and to travel a bit.

Pre-pageant favourites included Miss Trinidad and Tobago Miss Venezuela, Miss Mexico, Miss Puerto Rico and Miss South Africa. However, the big award of Miss Universe 2008 went to Miss Venezuela Dayana Mendoza – dubbed as the girl with modern beauty, dynamic and confident characteristics.

MUO need to make it clear to the franchise holder what they are looking for exactly. All these pageant companies spend so much freakin' money to get their ladies to the pageant-it is the least that they can do.

I hope MT&TU/W09 is held this year.

To my recollection this is only the 2nd time that I have heard Peter say openly how well he expected a delegate to do-the first was Wendy just before she left for MU1998-he said she may place first in the EG segment which she did.

Well to know that Miss Venezuela and Colombia expected her there, with them in the top 5, is a clear reflection of how well our girl performed at MU. I hope peter gets a response from the MUO. I too, would like to know what their response would be. Yes, she did not place but I still feel sooo proud of her, I think she really gave it her best. To Peter, please do not get discouraged by this, continue to work hard to mould young women like Anya... our miss universe...

i dont know i just really have to question this. I mean yes maybe she was a `favorite` with the Vietnamese people, and a large part of that had to do with her Asian look. I think she performed well, but I wont go as far as labeling her a favorite. She was one of my favs yes, but thats because i`m a trini and I love all our girls but the overall consensus on other boards etc, was not as great for her as Venezuela, Colombia,India and some of these other girls.
And year after year many girls who are thought to be quite strong, don't always make it. There are so many other women this year who were really strong...and didn't make it into the 15. so i dont get the questioning of her non-inclusion

...for me the top 15 was overally pretty weak but the top 5 were strong. I still have to wonder why India, France, Korea, Ireland, Israel etc. did not make it- What the heck is MUO looking for? I think this is what Peter Elias is trying to find out because I am sure MUO has told the individual franchise holders what they want but so many weak delegates made it ahead of more deserving ladies.

at the end of the day it mostly comes down to the performance on the night of the presentation show. maybe a girl looks awesome leading up to the show, but if she fails to shine on that night...if she doesn't have that high-impact gown, if her runway skills aren't that good...well all the pre-show hype can just crumble. and i think this is what happens to alot of the girls.

I understand your point.

You would always hear them say before the announcement of the top 15 that the top 15 were chosen based on the prelim competition (gown, interview and swimsuit) ALONG with votes from members of the MUO. I dont think they would base everything on the prelim night. A girl could look stunning in anything and may not have a personality to match.

So I thought that Anya had a great chance. Based on comments made about her representation from Peter.

Maybe they should have said, Based on the prelim show, here are the top 15.....

I would strongly like to advocate to the organisers in Trinidad and Tobago to give young men between the ages of 18 to 35 the opportunity to compete at the International Competitions for men, namely, MR WORLD,MR INTERNATIONAL, MR GRASIM INTERNATIONAL, MANHUNT INTERNATIONAL ETC.
There are many young men in Trinidad and Tobago who have the potential to win any of these competitions.
We need to get away from stereotyping and seek to promote. In the recent past guys from Jamaica, Barbados and Aruba have been doing really well, where are the men from Trinidad and Tobago.
Hell if they need someone to 'kick' things off I have a few suggestions of young men I know who would be willing to represent our country.
PE&A, be the ground breakers yet again as you all have proven to be and get this one going.
ALl the best!

...this is what he should look like. I know last year a small event was conducted to choose a winner for Mr. Manhunt international but we never made it to the international event. It is my belief if we are going to an international event we should send someone we believe could win or at the very least place.PE&A have already created a certain level of expectancy when we hear 'so and so' is Miss Trinidad and Tobago-everyone wants to see who the next MT&T is even if they hate all our success.
As for now I don't think their would be much support in T&T for males to be sent to international events like Manhunt International.

...I totally expect to see Valene Maharaj in the lineup for MT&TU09. I am seeing too many pics of Valene in T&T-does anyone know if she decided to put a hole on attending college? In my opinion, she looks better in her most recent pics than she did at the MT&TU/W08 final when she handed over the crown. I guess she is hitting the gym.

One other model from Meiling's 2008 presentation that I liked:

Now all in all, to be quite honest I am still very excited for Gabby. People could pong her height and body structure all they want (yes you will find alot taller and alot others curvier) but she has an almost flawless face and I have not see anyone with their body as toned as hers. MW is known to appreciate different body types so anything is possible. Additionally, Gabby has a wonderful smile, knows how to work the cameras and is a genuniely sweet personality from what I gather so although we should always expect the worst-I have a feeling that she is going to do pretty well when the MW08 final takes place on October 4th 2008.

I did not even notice her when I went through the gallery the first time. We need women who people can remember or at least want to take a 2nd look at. I think it is a given once a lady is wearing a MT&T sash people want to see who she is-it is up the lady afterwards to ensure they want to see more.

I knew about the scholarship but I totally forgot that for some colleges you have to apply one year in advance. That's very true-she may begin in September so that will be a minimum of 2-3 years she will be off the pageant scene-and who knows if by then her life would have taken a different direction.

Miss World 1999

Miss World 2000

Why the heck do we always have to wait a few years to see a strong delegate of East Indian descent at MT&TU/W? Considering there is always a good turnout of east indian women for these Miss India Worldwide etc. pageants you would think we should have at least one strong one every year or every other year at the MT&TW/U screenings. I have only seen 4 since I started following these pageants in 1994-Michelle Khan, the girl who won Miss Photogenic award based on Photographers' votes at the 1998 pageant (in my opinion the BEST looking indian girl I have seen at these pageants-and yes she looked better than Wendy on pageant night in a gown that was not even half as good as Wendy's), Anya Maharaj (think it was MT&TU2004-but she would have had to scrape into the top 15 of MU) and Valene who has just been phenomenal. I am pretty sure PE&A have already made it clear to Valene that they will like her to screen for MT&TU probably in a couple years...but oh gorm people...considering that 40% of T&T is of east indian descent-where the heck are the really competitive indian women for the screenings.

...I think we all know Gabby is not my favorite MT&TW but I have to say that she has the face of a winner. In my opinion, MW and MU tend to have almost flawless faces, not necessarily the most beautiful. Actually, for MW, with the exception of Zi Lin, I think for the last few years ladies with beautiful faces but not necessarily the best bodies or gowns have won. This is why I never had Anya as my outright pick for the MU title-but I was still hoping she would be top 2.

We need women with flawless faces for the 2009 editions of MU and MW and I hope they are no shorter than 5'8"-in fact the taller the better up to 6'1".

I am still hoping screenings are held this year. As for Gabby, I hope they get her a form fitting gown and not that tapestry nonsense Anya wore at MT&TU-we can't afford to make Gabby look shorter than she is already and just in case they should train her what to do if she falls while wearing the gown. MUSAU08 really ended up outside the top 5 because she fell very early in her EG walk and then did not know what to do when she got up. Poor lady!

...I think next year is the last year she would be eligible (if she has not already crossed the 26 years age limit). Jenna was good and deserved a place in the top 15 on merit but as you said it was one of those years online voting chose the semifinalists. She looked way better than Ingrid in SS and EG.

I certainly would not describe the current MU as the brightest out there either-same goes for MU2006. MU is first and foremost a beauty pageant-before the Trump era you were more likely to so see more well rounded winners but based on the last few years-they are just looking for a really beautiful lady who wears clothes well and is a confident speaker (not the most intelligent speaker).

...to send to MU. Give her a couple more years but this is the type of lady we are looking for-tall, svelte and a georgeous face who knows how to speak intelligently. From her stint on Synergy she sounded very innocent and young, which is good but she needs to mature more (but she always sounded intelligent though when she spoke).
Aditionally, now ever beautiful lady would want to be MT&T.

They need someone with the who is tall and has the "right look" as you put it-beautiful facial features and and a striking body who looks good in clothes. This lady is winner material but I don't think she is really interested in MT&T but this is the type of beauty that we KNOW MUO is going to appreciate.

I love all my MT&T but this girl's look basically outshines every single MT&T we have ever had with only Wendy and Kenisha being in her league but she has a more commercial look than either of them-what MUO is after. If they have to crown someone like this then they really need to do it 9 months to a year b/4 because this girl does not look like she COULD be Winner but looks like a WINNER PERIOD!

strange...i actually dont see the appeal here (my opinion of course). She just comes across more as the "pouty", "dont talk to me cuz i'm beautiful" type more than the "stunning", "omg, i'm here!" Of course this observation is based on 2 pics so i could be totally wrong.

btw C...i agree wt u, if miss venezuela, i mean miss universe had snapped her neck again...i wud be there wt u slapping..lol. a double whammy, she wont kno what hit her...LOL (ok crazy image in my mind now!)

She is certainly not "pouty" at all and comes across as a very genuine person. Look at the videos. Even Peter was impressed! Anyways, Amelia Vega was described as the biggest you know what at the 2003 pageant and she won and this year's winner was always in your face arching her back and making some ridiculous facial expressions-thank you Osmel for telling her to tone it down for the final.

I checked out the island events link and saw a couple more photos of Anya Nathaniel (still would like to see a clear photo of her face). I am still not very impressed, she looks good but not great. She also appears to have bedroom eyes (droopy upper eye lids) in both photos and in the video. I am not ruling her out yet though, still would like to see better photos.

I tend to agree with Maximus, I really do not see that much in her. She looks rather plain in the swimsuit photo and just ok in the others. I would like to see a clear photo of her pace to make a better judgment.

I just had to say it. I know alot of people don't like her look but I can't get enough of it. For me the black SS is a very difficult to cut to wear and pull off but she does a great job with it.
I am just glad that this forum has matured so much that we can all strongly disagree with each other without being disagreeable ourselves.

Just an observation-one of Yendi's thighs looks as big as Valene's waist.

Anyways, according to Jamaican posters on Missosology Yendi will be screening for MJU2009. I don't think she will win-place definitely but not win (I don't expect to see her in the top 5) just based on the fact we have an idea about what MU wants.

I hope PE&A crowns a tall MT&T with a flawless face and brains to match before the end of this year.

At the same time, I think the criticism being leveled at PageantCritic is justified.

PC, the point that I think everyone is trying to be made is that not because you and Trini77 help keep the board going (your choice, and this does not mean you own the board, or are the only ones allowed to express an opinion), does it mean that it is right to FALSELY heap praise on a delegate when you know that your feelings are the exact opposite.

If you felt Anya was not the right fit for Miss Universe, it would have gone so much more smoothly if you'd simply refrained from making any negative comments, but also refrained from making statements such as "Anya is perfect.. do not change anyting about her styling etc".

You MUST understand the difference between the two.

You've dug your own hole in the sense that you feel you are justified in saying what you want after the fact, because you made only positive and overly glowing comments before. That's not the way it works. It is almost like a case of sour grapes. The grapes look so delicious and appealing before, yet when you realise you cannot attain them, you steups and say you never wanted them anyway.

If Anya had actually been called into the top 15, or even won the crown (which according to what you have expressed after the fact was a sheer impossibility) would you have been as harsh? Would you have come on here and made reference to the "Anya disaster"? To how horrible she performed in the presentation show? Would you have stated that the judges must be off their rockers to crown a girl who you were certain was the wrong girl for the job?

So please... give us all a break. Those who post and those who read...Your hypocrisy is compounded by statements like "I have never seen you post here before". Had that poster been posting support for you or praise for Anya, you would not have thought twice about whether they'd posted before.

Read some of your messages, and if you're a person with integrity, you will realise what everyone is trying to tell you. Do not be false with your praise/adoration, and then turn around and say "I knew that all along". Just say nothing next time, or keep your comments just general and positive. People would have respected you so much more had you been simply saying things like "Good luck Anya, you have our support" which are general statements, rather than things like "Anya looked perfect, and she will bring the crown home for us".

Whether you respond (or anyone for that matter) to this or not, is not my concern.

It needed to be said.

I totally understand what you are saying and maybe I should of just said what I felt concerning Anya and my opnion of her. But, as I have said so many times in my previous posts and Adrian did too. Is that alot of the girls and or their families visits the forum. I did not want to contribute at the time to any critical remarks or comments that may be negative toward Anya that would of caused her to do even worse during the competition. I tried to support her to the very end. praising her every move and picture etc. along with PE&A. My intentions was to try and look beyond the fact that she was not the best and just focus on the positives in her and the pageant company at the time. I agree with you that my choices of words could of been different. I could of contuined with the praises after she didnt place. But, no one speaks out about the wrong that PE&A did by chosing Anya for MU. I chose to voice my displease with them because I thought they were begining to divert from where they originally started.

I still stand by every comment I made and I believe it needed to be said and not held back anymore. I did not see anything wrong with fully supporting her while the competition was going on. I waited until it was all over to voice my opinion about her and her faults. none of us could of changed the fact who PE&A chose after she won. So, we had no choice but to support her in every way possible. I was truly hoping for the best for her. But, I knew otherwise.

And I only made the statement that I have never seen you posts here before because of the stated fact that the poster was saying. I have never contributed in a significant way(not the exact words), which in untrue. I have been nothing but very supportive to all the MT&T in recent times especially since last Miss World started. There have only been a few people owho have really contributed on this forum apart from me and Trini77(with the exception of john).

And Jan, before you think about using metaphors, try getting one that makes sense. WE will see who the true fans of MT&T's are soon. When all of you fly by night, fans leave its just us regulars who are here all the time lending our support when needed.

So, who ever wants to be angry at my posts then feel free to do so. I stand by my every word. And yes Jan I do feel justified!

I think that yes the girls and their families may visit the site, so nasty comments that attack them are just plain wrong. but there is also nothing wrong with constructive criticism. When a girl, or should i say young lady signs up for this, she MUST take all of this into account. She is opening herself up to criticism...which sucks, but she MUST face this fact. She must learn to take it all in, the good...and the bad. i remember an interview with arlene peterkin, saying something along those lines- which is why she was hesitant to step up in the first place. so being honest, and voicing your opinion on something is not a bad thing. I remember when I said i hated an outfit Anya wore, (insert name here) was on it. But i just wont say I LOVE everything our girls wear or do, because Im trini. I want our girls to win, but im also gonna keep it real..

The MW08 final is on October 4th so she will probably leave in the first week of September or last few days of August for Ukraine (if she plans to stop off in England or some other country b/4 for a day or two).

I really hope Peter Elias and Associates announce screenings for MT&TU09 for November and give out the initial announcement at least 4-5 weeks before so some ladies could tone up a bit b/4 coming to the screening. MV reps are trained for at least a year or more -about 6-7 months before the MV final they begin training, surgeries etc. so by the time they are crowned they are literally ready to compete internationally. We don't want to see another MT&T under 5'7" unless she is going to Miss Earth.

Ever since Trump started making his picks the days of beauty with substance is long gone. Please kiss the glory days when Wendy, Lara, Brooke and Mpule ruled the universe. These women were true queens in every sense of the word. Beautiful, unique and let us face it intelligent.

I do not have sour grapes but I for one do not like the direction the Miss Universe competition has been taking. I was re watching Miss Venezuela's Presentation video and if she had cock her neck out one more time I personally would have slapped her. This new wave of beauty queen who just stand there and look cute and are basically arm candy for Trump is so disgusting to me.

I just had to get that off my chest. Please bring back women with class and dignity. PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That being said Trini77 I agree with u that at these screenings there should be no one under 5'9. Plain and simple short just does not cut it anymore. Secondly these girls need to be put through a rigorous catwalk regime. PRONTO!!!!! I agree that Peter needs to give out personal invitations to some young ladies to participate.

Do u remember that young model a couple years back, Angel Ross was her name, perfect example of who should get a personal invite and should rep us internationally.

I also agree that the screenings should be more than one day and applications should also be taken in over the web. I know that there are a lot of Trinis abroad that would love an opportunity to rep for TnT. What about some these girls who show up for these model searches. Peter should have scouts at these events.

As I said we need to change with the times b cause it is evident that those days of Miss Universe yester year are gone and we need to make the necessary adjustments.

... that is what is needed to survive in this era. Peter Elias and company usually send ladies who screen and who they think have potential to the fashion houses to model. I think he now needs to tell the fashion houses to send ladies they think can make it to him. This is where the private screening date would be useful-no freakin' model will want to stand out for 2-3 hours for something that may not happen, not to mention women who live abroad-let them send in applications so at least the pageant company can tell them if it would be worth it to come to the screenings.

Additionally, I personally think we should never have to see another MT&T without a great catwalk. It is very good that we allow the women to be themselves but at the same time the pageant company needs to understand that these women need to follow some direction particularly for the prelims and finals when it comes to stage presentation and their entire look. The prelim pic of Maggie is a great example. Maggie has very strong features but her hair and makeup were on-point for the prelims of MU2005. She looked freakin' hot for the prelim then for the final I have to say SHE decided to do the curly hair (because I doubt Peter with functioning eyesight would have allowed her to do that mess for the finals)-different is not always better as was the case. She looked totally out of place for the final. I mean come on people- MUO is basically using MU as a marketing brand/image-if they ask for a glass bottle why the heck we trying to give them a freakin' tin can? Give MUO what it wants-plane and simple.

We don't have to look for another Wendy-PERIOD! As you said C, those days are long gone. Beauty is 90% of the title! That's the direction the pageant is following and we could fuss all we want about how intelligent the girl is but if we don't give MUO what it wants then we are out of the semis.

I would just like to reiterate again, that we need to support all our MT&T reps. Even if we KNOW they are not going to make it to the semis I think we can always find something good to say about them because winning a MU or MW crown never made someone a better person. God made everyone with beauty inside and out-you might not believe it-but I know it.

I am saying this again because I think we need to brace again for the usual-you know who has started putting Gabby down on you know which pageant forum website. Let's not even bother to reply back. Just keep the positivity flowing without going to extremes. Our girls are diligent workers and we should really show our appreciation for all their hard work. It is not easy to put yourself out there in the public especially in Trinidad and Tobago. Let's show them what true Trini support is all about.

Gabby will be fighting to place at MW08 in the semis in my opinion. I am actually very interested in seeing if she does well in the Beachbeauty contest. MW is know to choose ladies with bodies that may not be the conventional norm of "best in SS." Just look at last year-DR belly was like jelly (I guess I ALONE noticed-right?) and Jamaica had thick thighs and really no real shape to her upper body.

Gabby is short but she looks very fit-almost like she works at the gym as a trainer. It will be very interesting to see how the Beachbeauty judges view this. It is quite possible she could be a big hit (top 5) or not place at all. It is just very subjective.

One thing I do know is that Gabby is definitely going to have alot of media coverage as she is indeed very beautiful. I know she is working really hard and is a young lady who trusts in God so I know anything could happen and that is exciting. Come on Gabby-hit them for six!

Hey guys, I know that there have been calls to move on but I just wanted to give my two cents.

First of all Miss Universe has turned into a politics, highest bidder game. As sweet and as lovely as she is Miss Vietnam - if her country was not hosting and paid Trump $20,000,000 would have been no where near the top 15.

Secondly did we forget that judge Roberto Cavalli is Italian, Miss Itlay????? Miss Japan whilst fahionable could not hold a candle to Anya. I could go on and on but the biggest issue is that we need to start thinking what would give us the biggest impact at Miss Universe.

Trump knows that he has hit a gold mine since Telemundo merged with NBC. For those who do not know Telemundo is the largest Spanish speaking tv channel in America. And who is more pageant crazy than the Latin Americans???? Do not expect them out of the top 5 anytime soon.

We need to be more concious of our delegates and approach Miss Universe as a marathon not a sprint. Look at when Miss Venezuela, Colombia, Mexico etc are crowned. The year b 4 the pageant.

I am not saying the TnT delegates have to copycat the Latinas but I do think that we need to review our position and make some necessary changes in order to become more competitive.

We made these adjustments in 2003 focusing on proper styling and elegance. Now we need to focus on the girls catwalk b cause let's face it Miss Universe is now more about who wears what and who can work the runway. Let us not forget that Trump does own a modelling agency.

I would also like if Peter and Company would liason more with the fans, B cause sometimes we might be able to helping in spotting something our a potential delegate that they have missed.

Just my opinions guys love you all!!!! Trini77 I do remember back in the day when we used to b the only ones along with a few others (PC, Miles, mAXIMUS, and Fay (remember her). Thanks 4 the memories!!!!!!!!

Guyl yuh remember more than me yes- I eh even dream it had a poster named Fay on the forum. I remember you and Maximus as the stalwarts and then Miles joined us.

I totally agree with you that they should really get a few real fans to just have a look at stuff like the gown and walk because we sometimes see things or at least question stuff that they might think is right or the best because they have the expertise (and they do) but we cannot afford to make mistakes. We need to literally be like just inside the top 5 in preliminaries overall to make sure we are not bumped from the the top 15 for Trump's picks.

In my opinion we have had a few (not many) delegates at the local competition who had slammin' bodies or at least looked good enough to make it (o.k. only 3 come to mind-sexy Anya, one girl from the same area Anya Maharaj was from at the 2003 pageant and to a lesser extent Gabby). I have always thought height does not matter if we have the right girl. However, after this years international event, I have to say that the only people who don't have to worry about the height factor are the pageant outfits who crown only tall ladies. Osmel does not permit anyone under 5'7" to enter even if she is a quarter inch shorter (and has a slammin' physique), and in large part most of their reps seem to be 5'9" or taller (the last "short" MV I can recall at this time was the one who won MU about 11 years ago who was 5'7" I believe).

Additionally, I really think that there should be 2 screenings. I believe women should be given the opportunity to send in photos and an application for the pageant for one day of screenings and then a 2nd day of screenings which is open to the general public for all those who decided last minute to enter.

I know we are a small country and people like to cry favoritism for everything but I really think that Peter and Calvin (along with the other members of the panel) need to find one lady who is really strong to enter the pageant. They need to do personally invites. I know Peter has done it b/4- I remember Arlene Peterkin (4th at MU1995) saying that she did not want to enter and Peter was the one who convinced her to enter. The thing is we can't afford to be making invites when we happen to see a strong lady every 2 or 3 years-they really need to aggressively look for one each year. This thing is about promoting Trinidad and Tobago foremost and we should have the best-forget all the small minded people out there who like to fight for everything and complain constantly. It is brand Trinidad and Tobago we are trying to market.

I also think that when they announce the finalists they should also give one measurement-the height. Forget about the other measurements (waist, etc) because Auntie Kim and the CCN pageant tried that nonsense and crowned the ladies with the best measurements and they had no chance of even making it to the semis of MU just by looking at them when the were at least one other lady at each pageant who could realistically make it at the international level (ex. MT&TU1999- the 2nd runner up should have won, and MT&T2002- I forget her name but she was a 5'11" model and she should have won but did not even make top 3).

In my opinion, we don't even need to crown the one with the best answer on final night-for me the local final Q&A segment should be 90% who has confidence, 10% intelligence/content since the judges would have already met for the prelims with each lady and figured out if she know how to use her brains properly. I still remember the 1998 event when the indian girl who won Miss Photogenic (and who should have been sent to MW) gave her final answer-I was laughing at home and when the cameras switched to the judges and crowd only Arlene Peterkin was laughing too. We got what she was saying and her wit but these professionals decided to send a lady who I knew was not going to make it at all to MW instead. I don't ever want to see that nonsense again. I hope they merge both SS and gown scores with the Q&A scores to crown their winners.

We can't afford to muck anything up otherwise we are out.

Did you look at the entire list of what they claim are actual results? They have basically the top 15 from the finals as their top 15 and we know that is crap-even MUO announced they (i.e. Mr. Trump) hand picked a few (usually no less than 5).

Twirling was big this year and I just saw this pic of Maggie-again, one of the best designs I have ever seen (and yes Maggie's face looked flawless for the preliminaries) but again even though it was a stage gown it was not a competition gown in my opinion that year. However, I bet it would have been the talk of the town if it was MU2008. If we are going to a MT&T in a gown with alot of material she needs to be tall to carry it well with good impact. Maggie was such a phenomenal walker in this gown. Wonder if MUSA could have pulled it off-Lol!

She looked phenominal in the prelims.. Everything was just right. Hair, make up etc.. Come final night it was another story.. But I was soooo proud of her.. She was the only black delegate to place in the top 15. I believe the pageant was held in Thailand. First Trinbagonian to place both in Miss World and Miss Universe. Kenisha was the 2nd.

I never knew about this forum 'til 20 minutes ago - took that long for the pics to load.

I watched the MU2008 rerun this evening, and then watched the prelim clips on the MU website of those 'surprise' top15 candidates and ive noticed one common thing - their walk (particularly) in the evening gown segment... they took their time to get to each mark, and didnt get caught up in walking to the beat of the music!

Also, as exotic and greek-like she looked, i'll have to say that if there's anything that couldve costed points was the actual gown. I get the floaty effect the designer was goin for but all that material left Anya looking short and shapeless, and didnt give the judges much of a silhouette to look at. Perhaps be better if the outer layer was more sheer and/or the inner layer a darker colour, even a print?

Is it me or did anyone find the scoring this year, weird?

Anyways Anya looked HOT and beautiful and i think she was robbed :0) WELL DONE ANYA, HUGZ n KISSES

I think this is one of the most powerful headlines I have seen on Globalbeauties ever. I think this is what we are going to have for the MT&TW/U 2009 selection process. I really believe that our fantastic PE&A are going to grow so much from this year's experience and they are going to come back with a win some time soon at either MW or MU.

I can't wait for the MT&TU/W09 screenings-I hope they conduct the final this year and have at least 2 weekends of screenings.

Ok I realize people are still getting over our none placement so I will try to bring us back. Have you all realized that you haven't analyzed the actual pageant. Fine , we didn't make it this year but there were some GLARING problems with the contest.

1. Though I did not like her gown that much Miss DR should have actually won the contest. if you look at any online publication about Miss Ven wining the contest they only show her answer to the question and not the question itself, that's because she didn't answer it. she really didn't. her answer was funny and had some wit but it really wasn't what Mr. Cavali had asked. Dr on the other had had an great answer adding a human touch with getting over her parents divorce. That ladies and gentlemen is real not rehearsed. I honestly thought Mexico too had a really good answer and delivery as well but i guess the judges really did have some prethoughts as to who they needed to win

2. colombia had a great performance and I was actually rooting for her but she to me just bombed the final question. I don't understand how she got placed so high? are they starting to count all the scores or is it the same format where they drop the scores?

3. the new Miss Universe crown is atrocious. It looked cheap and flimsy when Riyo tried to put it on her and even in the photos released today of miss ven on the beach with it, it is hardly the glamorous icon of beauty that it's predecessors were. Now I had only one problem with the former crown's design and that is I would have preferred the base to be rounded and not rising to that inverted V but it was still magnificently designed. This new Crown is not even good to crown the second runner up at Miss T an T.

4. I must admit the production on the whole was better than in previous years but Adrian is right they did go back to old Miss Universe choices. the top 10 was a joke in the sense that they got rid of all the real diversity they had in the top 15 however, those choices were not supposed to be there in the first place. Kosovo, I'll admit she is a pretty girl but she basically hid her hips the entire swimsuit round and still made it to the top ten.

5. I understand that Riyo changed the game last year with her gown choice and in my opinion some of the gown choices were a bit too hold and spin for me but I thought the gowns in general this year were a bit blah. Kudo's to Riyo for the tux but umm... yeah nothing more to say on that.

6. As for our girl I have had a chance to meet her and talk to her (this was prior to Miss Universe) but it's a contest and as much as PE&A can groom a candidate everybody els is grooming too. there really isnt a formula for beauty pageants or else on country would win it every year. Case in point you would have though PR would have made it on the soul fact that she got so much publicity with the pepper spray incident, the judges just had a different girl in in mind but I still applaud Anya she did all that she could do and she did it well.

RECOMMENDATIONS FOR NEXT YEAR.
I am hating this new vote for national costume crap that they keep running with. that is a serious award so i think it needs to be judged. have a people's choice award but don't be giving away that award so easily to fanatical countries who aren't looking at the costume or the contestant.

Now as much as I appreciate Mr Mc's work the costume we send really needs to compete. this one to me didnt. i believe that if we are going to bec ompeting we need to really compete. send our delegate with the tools to win and then let the judges do what they must after that

and I know it may be a little soon but I actually think we should try and send Gabby next year. I know going against my better judgement about sending short delegates back to back but i think she has a really good shot at it but we will see.

OK I AM DONE NOW, EXCUSE THE LACK OF PUNCTUATION AND SPELLING ERRORS PLEASE.

I loved your post. No one cares about the punctuation-we all know what it is to be in a rush. I look forward to more posts from you in the future.

However, I personally think Gabby will be in a dilemma if sent to MU2009. She is too short and thick to compete with the tall svelte delegates that MU has been crowning in recent years. Anyways she will have her hands full at MW2008-Ukraine, Slovak Republic, Russia and Bahamas look fantastic.

Current early favorites are Ukraine and Slovak Republic. I still think Gabby is in the running for Queen of the Caribbean but with MW it is so unpredictable. Regardless, I know PE&A and Gabby will want to place in a big way this year. I am hoping that screenings for MT&TU/W will be held in November and we have 2 to 3 weekends of screenings-one where appointments are made and then an open call. We need to crown women who are no shorter than 5'7"

I know PE&A are now going to up their game for the 2009 pageant season. God bless our fantastic pageant team!

in my mind that Anya will be up there to win Miss Universe. I read your post Trini77, so I decided to look at some of the contestants along with Anya from the presentation show. What I saw only further reiterate that Anya was indeed one of the best that night. I think people tend to be overly critical because they think Anya should act or be a certain way.

Looking at her during her presentation. I would not change anything much with her. She did an amazing job. I urge you to look at her videos without having any preconceived image of what should be. Anya was brilliant. Maybe you should read Adrian's post again. Ddid you not see his confidence in Anya doing very good on the final night?. Anya did not do a good job in her presentaion performance. her walk was way off and her styling was bad. Look at Kenisha, Maggie, Danielle and Faye. They all had a good solid walk and excellent presentation in their outfits. How could PE&A digress from a stunner like Kenisha to someone mediocre like Anya?. Kenisha had a good walk that made you remember her. She posed great and was styled right. Come PE&A WAKE UP!

Now that the Anya disaster is over and behind us. What do you guys think about Gabrielle's chances at MW. I think she is indeed a very beautiful girl. I mean in her candids you can tell she is beautiful. Other than Anya who's candids made her look, well... not so good. I was truly disappointed with Anya, but I have this feeling that maybe Gabirlle stands a good chance of doing well. One out of two for PE&A is not that bad. Although I hate the though that T&T has not placed in the last 2 editions of MU. I can;t help but think how much different it may of been if Makeda, June or maybe Keisha Quash was at MU. But, its in the past now and we can only look ahead. Come on guys lets rebound and rally behind Gabrielle. She is definitely better than Anya, especially in the beauty department. MW is about a mont and a half away.

Obviously you have not been reading my posts. I specifically said that I chose to keep a positive out look on Anya before and during the competition. As I knew that certain things that could of been said might be harsh or might harm her chances. Maybe you need to clean your glasses? and come again. I guess the same can be said of most of the posters here then? because alot of them had many negative comments to make but then change their minds back and forth.

But, I guess with your immaturity and lack of understand you can make that mistake of not seeing what I was trying to accomplish.

I chose to say what needed to be said. All the time everyone on here including me was sugar coating our post when we knew other wise.

Pageant Critic, give us a break! Stop trying to defend the indefensible! You really do sound like a hypocritic! There is nothing inspiring in dishonest commendation. This is further exacerbated when followed by supposedly "honest" bashing. Unfortunately, your contributions have been of little benefit to the forum. Save your credibility...whatever remains of it!

First of all I see that alot of you guys can not understand why I only had positive things to say about Anya during the competition. I was probably the only one who refused to say anything negative about her. Yet, there was so many that sad so many bad things but I kept defending her and PE&A in every way posible. All of the regulars on here knew that Anya was not the best fit for MU but we just tried supporting her before and during the pageant with out the harsh criticsm. I think alot of us didnt want to accept the fact that PE&A got it wrong this year. Many people are offended by my posts since after the pageant because I decided to speak the truth. Not that I sound hypocritical in my posts.

And JK25, I dont even remember ever seeing you on this forum. What audacity you have to make such a ludicrous statement. I have been probably the only person along with Trini77 to keep this forum update with information on T&T's deleagtes for some time now. I can't even recall seeing you post and messages or anything else supporting the delegates on here. So, get your facts right and then make your assumptions. My credidbility is there and will remain there. I chose to speak the truth and not hold back and pretend its not true that PE&A did not make a good decision.

This is the last I will respond to this subject. I think I have made my point clear.

My fellow Trinis,

Thank you for all the words of support that came in on this board and those who sent texts and called to still congratulate the team on a job that was well done. We will have to re-group and take a very critical look at the competition this year, with a view towards improving our performance next year.

I urge you all not to be critical of Anya, she was lovely and she worked hard and represented us well. Already I am seeing people starting to turn, and that really dissappoints me. I understand that everyone is dissappointed and feels the need to be "REAL" in their review but we must understand that last year the top 10 was very diverse in looks, sizes, height everything. This year their seemed to be a uniformity of the look etc. especially when it came to the ten and particularly the top 5.

Anya was a magnificant representative and was a favourite in Vietnam and with the international media because of her exotic looks and intellect. So I ask you as a favour to me not to bash her in your evaluation. Lets rather look carefully at how this year's pageant played out and ask ourselves, what do we need to do to ensure placement next year. What did the Miss Universe org. want this year, why was the top 10 composition so radically different from last years. This year seemed to be "text book or shall we say classic Miss Universe" but last year was diverse two Africans, (one who was bald), two Asians, a short curvey girl ( Mexico last year was a curveous as Jessica Rabbit), Miss India was in the 10 as well. A very diverse top 10 last year and this year not so much. Look at the final scoring and see if you see a pattern especially from the transition from 15 to 10.

Basically it boils down to the judges and their preferences, even stage performances seemed a little bit standard, lots of twirling, lots of hair flicks. Last year the women had their own style.

My people, this bump will motivate us to work harder and to do better. We want you all to have a celebration and we will continue to do give our very best to ensure that our flag will fly high throughout the night of these pageants. We focus now on Miss World and regroup to have a stong Miss Universe 2009. Thank you Anya for a wonderful representation and to all our supporters for your unconditional encouragement.

...we had the right girl and she did a splendid job overall. I have no regrets that we sent the right lady and I am still very proud of our georgeous Anya. There was really no range of beauty in the top 15-only light skinned black women made it, everyone looked tall and I saw no catwalk divas (but Columbia and Venezuela [if you don't look at her eyes] were good).

Text book beauty made it to the final 5-with Trump at the helm will we ever see another Wendy or Kenisha Thom?

P.S. Adrian I hope you all throw Anya a great welcome home party because the girl did do our country proud-she was a phenomenal rep-if this was last year's pageant she would have made it.

Not fantastic. I have been very positive toward Anya but we have to be realistic sometimes. She just was not as good and alot of girls there. There are so many things we can point out in Anya that didnt fit the mold entirely. How can you compare last year with this year? Even if we want to go down that rout, why not copy 2006 or 2007 and chose someone who looked like the top 5 or Kenisha?. I dont remember any short delegates making the top 5 for a long time with the exception of USA(which is expected).

Thanks for the post Adrian, and I really hope you guys regroup and see where you all went wrong. But, I think its clear what needs to be done. I think you guys were also over analysing what the MUO was looking for to the point of missing the key element. Anywa, lets see what happens at MW. As I said Garielle is definitely more beautiful. Maybe she can place.

I think Anya did a good job the problem is she was not fierce enough at times she look liked she did not put enough effort in competing in some videos shelook like she was acting not being herself she had the face, body but not the attitude i believe it has politics in it Russia,DR spain one of them stole anya spot i believe they already know who they wants for miss universe before the finals it amazes me how venezuela gets in every time can we all say trump picks venezuela every year himself anyway congrats to anya

Anya represented us with style and grace. I am proud of her even though she did not place in the semi finals. but think about it guys there were so many girls who competed this year and we did not see one picture outside of the scheduled photoshoots. I am confident that Anya did well and did her best. And yes comments like that can certainly deter one's desire to represent the country, constructive or not, for the girls its personal because it is about them. i'm sure that the staff of the pageant company recognized the glitches and will have them fixed. we just need to get back or rymthm. we will

I do not know how to respond to Anya's none placement at MU. I really thought she had a good chance. Eeven when the delegtes were being introduced. I thought Anya was definietly in. But, to my surprise no Trinidad and Tobago in the top 15. What went wrong with Anya?. I have been very supportive of Anya because she was Miss T&T. I also knew she might of been looking at this forum so I didnt want to say anything to cause her to lose focus. I wanted her to maxinmize her potential in every way with out the criticism from people. But, this is something I should of said long ago. When Anya won. I knew she was not the right choice. I really didnt see her doing great at Miss Universe. Makeda or June would of been the better choices. Anya is a wonderful person but she just did not have what it takes to become a MIss Universe. I always tried to stay positive and try to find the best qualities in her. But, deep dwon I had major doubts about her. I think PE&A got it so wrong this year. After not particiating last year to come back this year and not even make top 15?. How embarassing. I understand they wanted to show how diverse T&T is. But come on. This is beauty pageant, All the MUO cares about is beauty and who looks the best. No brains etc etc. PE&A needs to stop experimenting so much and get back to where they were going from 2004 to 2006. Anya is a very accomplished girl and I know that PE&A were looking for a very well educated accomplished girl. But, the MUO dont give a hoot about all that. They want to see beauty, beauty and more beauty. I am disappointed in Anya not placing because I wanted her to but I kind of expected it could happen she wouldnt. She just did have the Miss Univer type of beauty. Anya was also way to short. Look at all the finalist except Vietnam. All were tall especially the top 5. Anya also has a good body but her shortness makes her legs look huge. PE&A really messed things up this year BIG TIME. T&T was going great since 2003. Now, they missed last year and not even placing this year. I have never been so critical toward PE&A before but they are moaving away from where they started. I hope they realise their mistakes and fix them. Now, I dont even know about Gabby's chnaces at MW. In fact, I am not really looking forward to it. T&T track record at Miss Universe is being ruined. And PE&A needs to wake up. Well, at least gabby is prettier than Anya. Maybe she can at least make the top 15. But, that is. Truly disappointed.

was aweful as well, Again trying not to be to critical toward her I held back any negative comments.

I can understand what you are trying to say but I totally disgree with you that we did not have the right young lady. Anya was great but her prelim SS walk was poor and her EG failed to dazzle within the first 5 seconds of her onstage. Maggie and Kenisha had really fantastic catwalk skills for the prelim so I have no idea why the heck they told Anya to walk like that. Peter should have gone with a form fitting gown for Anya. Additionally, from the semifinalist it was obvious they were intrested in the taller ladies even if they were not that pretty-period! I mean come on people-Hungary? JAPAN? SPAIN?-Anya was way better than them. Out of these 3 only Japann had a very stunning face but her body was just O.K.

For next year though, PE&A need to take a page from Osmel-5'7" is the minimum height and hopefully we don't crown anyone shorter than 5'9". How tall is Makeda O'Neil? I don't expect to see Valene at MT&TU09 so Peter and Calvin better start looking for ladies they can invite for the screening. Forget about if you find her in a mas camp modeling a costume-MUO does not care-the current MU dropped out of high school to model, had no sense that she was doing something inappropriate when at the children's orphanage (or something like that) she was paying more attention to her face in mirror hanging on the wall than to the kids and she is a bit immature. We are the only people here caught up with intelligence with beauty-a quality we should not lose but let's not forget which pageant we are sending our rep to.

I held back from saying this before but I can't help but think that one of the reasons why Anya was a favorite in Vietnam was because of the way she looked(Asian). I may be a little to critical again. But it stems from knowing that T&T coould of done better. Maybe if her presentation was better. But, lets focus now on MW. Hopefully PE&A regroup and make the right adjustments.

Trini77, you confuse me sometimes. First you say Anya was one of the best delegates yet and then you say that she did not do well in EG and SS, she didn't have great catwalk skills and that her figure is too muscular. What then was great about her. Secondly you say that PE&A should start looking for delegates and forget where the find them....since as we all saw last night Venezuela was one of the most immature and did not come across as intelligent. All this said if PE&A should not pay much attention where they 'pick up' delegates from why didn't Makeda or June go to the pageant then? Since you all agreed that they did not interview great nor had a great walk. In my opinion too many young women from T&T and other countries as well get sent to
MU and MW and they don't deserve it. A well read, accomplished, put together, intelligent woman would always be more refreshing to be around than an airhead with looks and boobs. You spoke about setting a standard and sticking to it,I strongly agree it is time to replace the standards that were present when Wendy won and before that in the olden pageant days. The Miss T&T is becoming too much of a modelling gig. Just because someone looks good in clothes does not mean she is pageant material. Its time to face that fact. Forget about trying to be shallow at least let our reps be remembered for being brilliant not form being dumb and still beating the odds.

I am really shocked at all the negativity toward Anya and the overly harsh comments. Pageant Critic, weren't you the one who said nothing about her should be changed for the finals and yet you now criticize her so harshly?

I had my problems with Anya which I always mentioned, namely her hair styling and her walk in swimsuit presentation with the weird way she just let her arms hang loosely from her body. I was also concerned about her rather muscular physique. Other than that I think Anya did a great job and was a good rep for our country. True she was short and I would have liked her to be taller but short girls have made the finals before.

Makeda or June would not have placed due to the plain fact that the competition was being held in Vietnam and Asians are known for not liking dark skinned girls (look at how beautiful Angola was omitted). After all is said and done, I think Anya did her best and she represented us well.

Next time P&A need to train the girls to walk better and please make sure they are not muscular.

Congratulations to Anya, she represented us well and from all accounts was well liked.

OK Pageant Critic, you are not being entirely fair. As mentioned in my post above, those are the only criticisms I have made of Anya and I believe they are constructive criticisms, not bashing. I mentioned her hair, her walk and that she was too muscular. Those are facts as I see them and not overly negative.

I understand what you said about holding back but I think it is more beneficial to the delegates if constructive criticism is made before they compete, so that they can have a chance to review and make possible changes to their style and whatever else can be change, rather than to wait until after and then say all that you thin is wrong. I think that defeats the whole purpose. I understand you meant well by doing so but I just think it would have been fairer.

I firmly believe constructive criticism should be welcomed but I think some comments have gone over board. Anyway, you have been doing a great job here in the forum but I just thought you were a bit unfair now that MU is over and Anya did not place. I always think it is best to be frank upfront, even though the girls browse the forum I think it will help them rather than hurt once the criticisms are constructive, and in the end I think it will help team P&A to know what people think early on.

Anyway, I am not upset with you. We will all have different opinions at times and will not always agree.

...thank black women don't do well at MU when it is an Asian host. We could all pretend people don't have preferences but everyone knows that they favor Eurocentric beauty. If a panel is heaven laden with Asian judges (from Asia) they are going to appreciate the Beyonce look more than the Kenisha Thom or Wendy look. At least MW has judges that are not mostly Asians even if the host is from Asia.

This is why I really need to re-think posting here. I merely was pointing out that last year there was a more diverse group. BTW Mexico made top 5 in 2005 and she was short and Mexico was short last year and made top 10. However now that I see someone on this board refers to the "Anya disaster" I realise that even on this board we cannot be sure that our girls will not be insulted. As a team we put out loads of our own resources financial and otherwise to send the woman we think is best. When people make those sort of insensitive comments I realise that people only love the girl and respect our reps when they win or make it in to the top 15. Regardless of how well they work or how much they sacrifice if you don;t make 15 we can refer to you as a disaster. Now I am once again reminded why so many women are cautious about coming forward to represent. That is someone's daughter, sister, friend and you refer to her as a disaster after she gave up months of her life and 5 weeks in another country away from her family, job and life. SHAME ON YOU!!!

I remind everyone that we as a team work extremly hard and there are going to be years that we may not make it, regardless of how much we prepare and train. We are not over analysing we are merely looking at changes in patterns. Understand we have a limit of resources, our population is small, we do not believe in plastic surgery simply for the sake of making a top 5 or winning. A group of very competent judges made the decision to choose Anya and she did an amazing job, she is an incredible accomplished woman and was a joy to work with because she gave her all.

Please I urge you to be more careful with your comments on this board, many of the girls' families visit this board and even though we instruct that they do not visit message boards even this one, they still sneak and do it. I remember having to comfort many girls because of things said on this board, but I thought lately it was changing, we were growing and then I see that comment. You now give other posters full permission to pong up our girls. You think the Jamaicans will ever treat with their women like that and they have not made top 10 at Universe since 2004 and before that it was 99. We miss once, and you all turn on your own. Sometimes we can be our own worse enemies.

We however will continue to give of our best for our country its people and our true fans who are with us in good times and bad.

Adrian, no one was insulting Anya. Most of the critical comments made stems from obvious facts. I am a bit surprised at your response. You of all person should acknowlegede the misatkes. I think you yourself knew that Anya was not the best choice. The reference about"The Anya disaster" was not a direct statement toward Anya. But, rather the fact that she was not the Miss Universe type of beauty or who can win.

The world of beauty pageants always comes with compliments and criticism. Most of the regulars on this forum have been very supportive of all the Miss T&T's. We generally rally behind all the reps. But, people tend not to be critical most times because as I stated before we know the girls visit the forum and we want to maixmise their potential with out the criticism. This is the reason I waited until the end on the pageant to make my comments concerning Anya. If you look at all my post before the pageant you can see how supportive I was to Anya. I wanted her to do good. But, I knew she was not up there with alot of the other contestants.

I also made my comments because it was becoming obvious that the pageant company is straying from where they started.

You guys do work very hard and that in commended by all. I for one really appreciate it. No one ever said they did not like Anya or respected her. She is a wonderful person. Byt she just was not fit for Miss Universe. I really liked alot of past Miss T&T's that didnt make the top 15. Like Heidi and Alexia for example. So, I think its rather rude of you to just make a statment that is not true. I truly thought they should of made the cut in their respective years. But, they didnt.

No one turned on Miss T&T or anyone else. The facts was just being stated.

But, if you find any commecnt I made offensive then I take it back. And no one said anything about abandoning the paeagnt company. You guys have our full support always. But, I think the criticism are justified.
Anywa, I hope that you guys regroup and fix the wrongs. and you all have our full support. Anya did her best.

I understand what you are saying Adrian but u also must understand critism comes with the territory. so, obviously there is alot of disappointment so u will hear some critical comments. and a contestant as well as her family should kind of know this will come. this is why a young woman has to think about if she is strong enough to take both the good and the bad.
But I mean just take it all in stride, regroup and come back stronger than ever. You guys have dont great work. i mean our population is so small and often there isnt support from corporate tnt or the government...our girls are all natural. i mean you guys are amazing. but you cant be upset of people are expressing their views

...maybe you did not mean it the way Adrian (and some of us) interpreted your previous posts.

Personally, the only thing I want to do to Anya if I was there in Vietnam with her right now was give her a big bear hug and say "Thanks babes-you did a fantastic job and we are proud of you." The girl worked her you know what off and she must have felt so sad to not live up to the promise to make up for last year's non-attendance in the way she wanted to -by making the top 5.

She is one of the most dedicated MT&Ts we have ever had. Let's move on and give her time to heal as I am pretty sure she took this personally. I am so grateful that she had family there in Vietnam with her for the final.

Personally this is my take on it and I hope PE&A does something about it....

1) MU is obviously part politics so we cant do much about it except boycott...which is a

loser's tactic.
2)Obviously Miss Universe IS ABOUT being prepared yes but also a big factor is the delegate's

modelling skill/being ON...We have seen it tonight with VENEZUELA...I mean come on her

presentation show as well as final swimsuit was THE BOMB! We are in 2008...sure it seems

pompous/bitchy...it isnt its MISS UNIVERSE!
3)TRINIDAD needs to set standards and stick to them...i.e. VENEZUELA has been consistent for

decades as a result of this! Example: When was the last time a MU 5'9 or shorter??? Also age is

important! 18-25 is good! 26 year olds are for MISS USA alone...
4)I know this whole standard thing may sound a bit un-Trinidadian etc...Venezuelan nah...but at

the end of the day...T&T is not a pageant fanatic country...as a result we need our delegates

to be of a certain standard if we really want to be jumping come top 15...Anya was grt and I

congratulate her...however I think her obvious faults were:
* probably her height...sure it shouldnt be but at the end of the day its about marketing...a

tall delegate will always be favoured over a shorter one! (See the last 10 Miss Universe's) She

also had a rocking body but with her height, her thighs seem larger than they really are in the

presentation show.
* Her gown! I dont know what some of you all saw in it...It was a bit reminiscent of Oxana's

own but look at the difference between Anya's and this year's Miss Russia...less cloth...no

need to be twurling all of it around and no huge amount of accessories...
* Her walk! Her SS and EG presentation was poor! I dont know what happened but I couldnt see

how some people saw her as a winner...WALK matters....(See Riyo's SS walk, Venezuela's...all

years since 1998...Isn't Anya a model?

Concluding I believe ANYA did a good job, not great because she didn't place...being real

here...We should not focus on all this 'exposure' as something good because at the end of the

day...3/4 of the exposure is on the final night...Not many people are fanatics like we are!

I hope Gabrielle is ready for MW and we need to come out this 1998 thinking of humble/big

clothy-dress Miss Universe...We are in 2008 and its time to freshen up...We have probably done

it fashion wise but I truly believe Anya, Kenisha, Maggie, and Faye (notice I excluded

Danielle) just didnt have THE walking skills that we see these Latin Americans/Asians got...We

need to improve...If people say ok time to come out this thing...I have no problem. But before

we do lets do it with class...ie ONE MORE MISS UNIVERSE!

The calls for us to dump the MT&TU franchise is nonsense. The exposure for our country from a placement at the event is one of the best advertisment blitz I have every seen from T&T-trust me when I say that TIDCO supporting the MT&TU/W reps is the only real effort I have seen in my 7 years in the USA by the T&T government to advertise our country internationally.

That being said, Anya's prelim performance was good-not great. The only way she could have definitely made top 15 was by being top 9 in the prelims. I am pretty sure India got screwed just like Anya did.

Anyone look at the ridiculous scores-how the hell can the SS scores go from about 7.01 to 9.4 -this just shows how ridiculous it is to let Mr.Trump choose 5 or 6 semifinalists. Additionally, why bias the judging panel-we all know Mexico should have placed higher based on SS, EG and Q&A performance- but hey all you need is one judge giving really low scores (anyone notice they don't toss out any scores like in the past) and you have the winner you want while the oh so fragile public thinks the composite score on their screen means transparency from MUO. What a joke!

So as we have seen-we don't need a girl who is the smartest- nor someone who really cares about children-only someone who photographs well with them and is beautiful.

If you'll have such a cynical view about the MU pageant why should we continue competing then? It makes no sense to complain about Trump and the fact that he may choose 5 or 6 delegates of his liking, all the while continuing to send our reps only to get shot down in the end.

...we can no longer send top 15 material-we need to send ladies who can make top 9 or top 5 ideally in the prelims for us to safely be in the final 15. The two biggest pageants in the world have their negatives and positive but once there is at least 8-10 places based on merit available for the semis then T&T has a chance. Additionally for the amount of money spent to send a lady to these pageants, a placement in the semis/finals gives much more exposure to brand Trinidad and Tobago than what the T&T government could ever afford.

People let's move on and start supporting Gabby!

Hey guys... Yes, I am utterly disappointed that Anya did not even make top 15 but I dont think we should pass blame on anyone especially the pageant committe. We all know that she was heavily photographed, she was always well put together, popular and spoke well. Thats why we all expected soo much from her. A true violation of expectation. To my knowledge she did her best. At the end of the day thats what we all wanted and we all know she did her best. The prelim judges together with the MUO just did not see what we saw. I'm not saying that she was flawless. I had mentioned after the prelim show that i did not like her walk and final stance during SS, hoping that the EG and Interview would put her through.

I really hope that we could "bounce back" next year. We could only hope for the best. Its sad now.. b/c miss universe season is over. My thoughts are with anya... All the best to her...

Hey Adrian,

I hope you are not overly upset about some of the comments made. I realise that some comments could have been seen as harsh. I guess some of us a super passaionate about our reps. (we had alot of haters to deal with, I'm sure Trini77 would remember me complaining to him about Mario on the missosology website).

I would continue to defend our reps regardless. I think, based on your response "dissapointed but not defeated" that the pageant company is aware of what needs to be done. I commend you for wanting to have a critical look at what went wrong. I know that we will do well at Miss World.

Again, we apologise for sounding offensive. Please understand that we are just too passionate at times.

To Anya, we say a heart felt thank you for wanting this. I always believe that things happen for a reason. All the best to you. I made sure that my co workers and my family knew about you in the run up to MU. You will not be forgotton. All the best...

Wow you sound so disappointed. I mean we all are i guess. To be honest I never saw Miss tnt 08, because i dont here anymore. But im home on vacation so I had a chance to see the show yesterday (even though they didnt show the entire thing). The people that impressed me were Gabrielle (even though she is short, she stands out and she has a great walk), Sayesha(not sure about the spelling) and Makeda. Now I must say again they didnt show the complete show, so I did not see the interview, so that may have changed my opinion.
But Anya was our rep, she did her best, she didnt make it, lets just move on to MW. Now I wasnt sure about Anyas chances, but I think Gabrielle has a great chance. I hope PE & A really get on it with the training ...especially with the walk..not only interview prep. Did you guys see the way the girls worked it last night?
I was also wondering why they didnt choose Valene as the MU 08 rep. Maybe she wasnt interested in MU?

Yes, was disappointed but I guess we all expected it from the begining. So, its time to move on to MW.I like gabrielle, I want to see more candid non photoshopped pictures of her. I hope she does well at MU. I also didnt think Valene had any interest in competiting in MU this year. She is going to school I believe.

Congrats Anya, you have represented Trinidad and Toabgo beutifully. It does not take placing in the top 15 to make you a winner. You stood out from the rest of the delegates and we applaud your efforts. As for the actually show, I cannot belive some of the choices and I know had you been there, you would have excelled.
I would like to strongly advocate for you representing us in the future at Miss World,Miss International,Miss Earth or Miss Tourisn Queen or Miss Leisure.(as well as Valene Maharaj)
Congrats to Peter Elias and Associates and Here's looking forward to the Miss World pageant in November.
Thanks for keeping Trinidad and Toabgo in the limelight.

Hey Trini77, where are those pictures of Gabrielle?

I hope I don't come across as rude, but I think you need to ease up on Anya. Generally every year, one or 2 strong favorites fails to make the cut. I am pretty sure India, Korea, and T&T probably made the top 15 in the prelims but not top 9 so they were replaced. Even if this is not the case, our girl worked her butt off for US-the T&T people she loves so much. Do you really think Gabby, June or Keisha quash would have fared better-heck no. Gabby looks even shorter and thicker than Keisha-pretty face does not equal good competitor. June-when she opened her mouth at MT&T it was a complete disaster-they would need nearly a whole year to prepare her properly for the interview and let's be real-who the heck from the Asian judges would place a dark skinned MT&T in the top 9?

Anya was the right choice based on what we already knew about MU but based on who made it this year it is obvious that the pageant went in a totally different direction this year. It's not Anya's fault-she was phenomenal and I will always love her as MT&TU2008-one of the best we have ever had. Auntie Kim could not have chose a better girl herself.

I hope Peter and company does their own scounting b/4 the prelims. Where the heck are the strong women of Indian descent-yes we know Valene was great but come on I am of east indian descent and I have seen ladies in T&T who would be a better fit for MU than Valene herself.

As for Gabby at MW, she has her freakin' work cut out for her but she is still in the running for the regional title.

well, I didnt say Gabby would of done better at Miss Universe. I dont think so at all. But, even though June seemed to have a speech problem she could of been groomed. Makeda was not bad either.Keisha was a catwalk diva and had a nice face, but was also short. So, I dont know about her. But, I think she might have done better. I have asked myself the same question. Why isnt there more women of Indian decent as Miss T&T. I am sure there are many stunning gorgeous Indian women who can do great at Miss Universe. Valene is a good example the potential. And I know there are many more who are more competitive and beautiful than Valene.

I must disagree with you, after watching the prelim videos I just gotta keep it real. I wont just say something because im a trini so I'll just think everthing our reps do is perfection. She just wasnt strong enough. the ladies who made it were just stronger than she was. and thats ok..that doesnt take anything away from her, cause i still think she is a fab young woman but this just wasnt for her.Im sure she tried her best. and your cant really wonder about how the others would have done cause the fact is we wont ever know.

Its not matter if she is a fab young woman or not. She did her best and is a good roll model. No one never said she wasnt. But, she just was not Miss Universe materiel. And everyone on this forum knows that. I have never been a person to be very critical. But, PE&A are begining to move away or rather go astray from where they started in 2004. I surely hope they can regroup and foucs on their flaws and fix them. I like Anya alot, She is not by any means the worst T&T has sent. But, guys come on. She just didnt have it. Let's not bash her. This is who MUO chose (and you can bet Mr. Trump Jr.'s scores had alot to do who made it to the final 5). She has alot of growing up to do and hopefully she loses the crazy eyes look. At least we know she knows how to pose for pictures and will be great for marketing products and the MUO brand (lookwise). Congratulation to Venezuela-they worked hard for this win.

I can't help but think of the Meiling dress and yes, I think the Meiling gown was better but this is not a clear pic. I really can't seen any detail of the gown and it is obvious this is a gown that needs to be seen while it moves in order to capture its essence. For now I think we have to do alot of praying for Anya to make top 5. That being said, it is a bit "Wendy-esque." It's a very simple design and I guess I need to see better pics of it in order to make an informed decision as to whether or not I like it-based on this pic alone however, I don't because it looks like you literally lose Anya's body inside it. However, I can't believe Peter got it wrong-I think we just need to see better pics of it.

I have decided I like it. Hopefully when clearer pics become available I will love it. I guess Peter Elias is the designer this year. The material looks extremely light and I am actually excited to see the video. I really think this is a "motion" gown-something tells me when Anya is walking across the stage in it she is going to dazzle. I really am getting the Wendy vibe from this gown-I take it as a good sign, since Peter has never done another gown that was even reminiscent of one Wendy wore at MU1998 till now (O.K. I don't know if Peter is the designer but it looks like something he could come up with). Blow the competition away Anya on July 14th in Vietnam.

has been generating positive comments-most people seem to like it. It is also growing on me but I hate the lighting in this picture. I was totally not expecting something white-who would have thought-put the most sexy MT&TU I can remember in a dress that has nothing to do with her sex appeal and in white of all colors-Peter seems to know what is required and I am sure this gown is not a Maggie disaster. Once Anya gives a flawless stage performance she will have a good chance to crack the top 5.

I feel Peter put her in white to tone down her sex appeal a wee bit. Anya looks very lovely...she's a vision in white. Personally, I think she can more than give the front runners a run for their money.

I dislike India's gown!

Most people seem to dislike India's gown but I actually think it's great. However, based on her stance in the pic she seems to loose it all together from the hips down-I can't explain it. She just looks a bit awkward to me. Maybe it is just the pic. If she can't work the gown onstage then it will be a disaster.

if T&T again causes the major upset but beating the big favorite Venezuela for the MU title (just like in 1998) with a gown that is reminiscent of the one Wendy wore. I think PE&A are going to have their biggest placement ever at MU since they took over the franchise in 2004.

I think PE&A made an excellent choice in gown. It will be very exciting to see Anya win. I want to like India's gown. But, its just okish to me. But, not bad by any means. I wait to see clearer pics. I hope the color of MIndia's gown pops and is not pale. From the little I have seen of the prelims-gowns worn by Anya, Columbia, Australia and PR look good but PR looks old and her body is not the best for such a form fitting gown-I really don't think she could make top 5 but we all know latina tend to be favored by the judges and PR is bidding to host next year's event.

I can't really see it clearly in the pic but I guess it looks O.K. I wish we had a close up face shot so we could see clearly how she looks.

Does anyone know where I can find a bigger, clearer pic of Anya's gown....

I'm new to this whole "follow Miss Universe during the run-up to the pageant" thing, and it frustrates me that none of the sites like Missossology or USB have pics of Anya.

Btw...I have seen pics of Japan and Korea's gowns (yuh know the ones Ines was raving about) and I am not inpressed.

The gown looks great, my only concern is the hair, I hope that is not the way she is going to style it.

i did not even realize that this website existed, but because i missed the national costume segment,i decided to try to find it,and i did.
i think that a much, much better national costume could have been designed for miss trinidad and tobago, look at what the 'best national costume'looked like.and, looking at all the previous national costumes,we have much more talent than what was displayed on mis t and t.

I was really upset that Anya didn't even place....I thought she would have at least made top 15, but I guess it wasn't meant to be. I really don't know how the hell Italy and Hungary (in that disaster that she wore in preliminaries) made it ahead of Anya!

I really felt it for Miss USA...I dunno the second Miss USA to fall at Miss Universe during evening gown....I couldn't believe it!

Ahhh...the winner in my opinion should have been Miss Mexico...she gave the best answer, she was the only one (in my opinion) to give an intelligent answer...I really do not think Miss Venezuela deserved to win, but in the end the MUO knows what it wants. I don't know why they even bothered to have the pageant it was clear from the Ao Dai and the parade where she lead the delegates, surprise she didn't win the swimsuit competition...I guess that would have been too obvious.

Anyways...next year we'll see what happens. PE&A need decide whether its worth going to Miss Universe anymore! My guess is they will still enter! Afterall, which pageant isn't political!

I still think Anya did her best, and we couldn't ask for a better rep.

Let's begin to focus on Gabby-this is what we as fans need to do. Anya's moment has come and gone with the final and I am pretty sure we are all going to keep talking about her for a while but by weekend we need to kick of Gabby's support. MW is literally right around the corner-about a month and a half b/4 Gabby will be leaving for Europe to compete.

Peter Elias, Alyson, Adrian, Bobby and Calvin French need to get together and discuss what they are going to do for the MT&TU2009 selection process PRONTO-I don't care if it sounds a bit insensitive but they really need to determine what went wrong. We had the right girl and the right team. (Based on what took place this year they only have one possible call back for the upcoming pageant-MAKEDA O'NEIL (and they need to tell her to grow her freakin' hair out and how to put on pageant appropriate make-up)-Neither June nor Katrina should go to MU! In my opinion they need to get a couple people not necessarily on the team but to go over what the heck our reps are going to be wearing for the PRELIMINARIES and how our girl walks. Let's be totally honest-I was the first pageant fan on this forum to state openly I was standing by Peter when the Cheryl-fiasco broke but even I had to say I was standing by Peter's gown because it was Peter and I have been on this board for years along with C and Maximus when no one else was posting but us 3-What the heck! We all LOVE PETER ELIAS, ADRIAN, ALYSON, CALVIN AND BOBBY-but they need someone on their team who can raise objections. If I was in a position to do so, I would have already called up the pageant company and tried to get involved somehow because I ain't afraid to tell them eh eh! Essentially, they need someone who can and is not afraid to say "NO" or at least raise objections.

I love my MT&T reps and my PE&A but come on people we can't be blind supporters. I kept composure with my posts pointing out that Anya's walk was not on-point because she was in Vietnam and could possibly visit the forum-I did not want to distract her at all-I think we all in some part kept that thought at the back of our minds so we very carefully pointed out our critical comments. Now I can openly say that it was probably the worst preliminary walk I have seen by a MT&T at an international SS competition-hence why in one post I asked if Anya was injured/physically hurt in any way.

I know Alyson trained Anya for the walk-but what the heck? I could not tell that it was Alyson-only that Anya was definitely following someone's direction.

MU2008: Essentially this is what happened in my opinion-->Anya had a ridiculous SS walk; Preliminary gown-totally wrong choice-this is a gown you compete against 9 wiith not 81-PERIOD!

So at the end of the day THE STAGE PERFORMANCE EXPERT ALYSON BOMBED! THE GOWN EXPERT PETER ELIAS BOMBED! ADRIAN WAS THE ONLY ONE ON-POINT WHEN IT COUNTED-EVERYONE WHO MET ANYA PERSONALLY ONLY HAD GOOD THINGS TO SAY ABOUT HER.

PEOPLE WE DO NOT KNOW EVERYTHING AND AS SOON AS THE PAGEANT COMPANY RECOGNIZES IT WE CAN GROW AND MOVE ON.

Nuff said. Just to reiterate-we have a fantastic group of people training our ladies-Peter, Alyson and Adrian are such fantastic people-they invest so much of their time, love and energy into our ladies and we all applaud them. Anya was just a phenomenal rep. but I have to say after the prelim EG and SS, I was never more doubtful about us making the cut. I basically put Anya together with Heidi Rostant-2 ladies who should have been up there in the top 10 at least.

P.S. I know this may come across as a strongly worded post to some but I am not angry-but more concerned that PE&A don't just brush it off-they really need to learn and grow from this experience.

first of all I VEX!! no anya...whats that about? anyway...from the top 15 i started wondering what exactly was happening, by the SS competition i gave up. I mean 10 of the girls scored between 7 + 8. Either those judges were harsh or the girls really didnt deserve it! Which brings me to...if they scoring so low why were they in top 15? DOes it mean that the other girls who didnt make it were that bad?
ANyway Colombia was my winner....i think she deserved it over venezuela! Venezuela is veeery pretty though....good marketing tool (we kno thats what he wants).

Question guys...was it just me or was this show very boring?

hey C, trini77, PC, myles..how u guys?

So its all over, no major surprise huh. i thought it was a great top 5, but its obvious the judges dont really focus on the questions much huh. but i cant lie, im happy Dayana won, but no way was her answer better than ,Mexico or DR.
As for Anya, hey im proud, she did her best. i had alot of hope, but i wasnt really surprised. but she was a great rep.

(Was typing this while SS round was taking place)

I know some people are going to be very emotional about Anya's nonplacement. I actually feel peace about the entire situation. Our girl did a fantastic job and we can only praise her for such fantastic representation. Let's keep the positive messages coming as I know Anya must be devastated because she so wanted to make T&T proud.

On an aside, when Peter Elias gets back home they (the pageant company) really need to get together and discuss what went wrong (hint: gown and walk) apart from the fact that based on the semifinalist it is obvious that only a latina or USA will win. As C has said before, since Trump took over and started choosing 5-6 of the semifinalists it is almost like every other year we have a latina winner-good business for Trump but as I have said before T&T will not benefit from these business picks. We are too tiny islands that Mr. Trump cannot consistently benefit financially from.

Based on the slate of semifinalists, I have concluded the crown will go to a latina or USA based on the fact that any of the ladies who could realistically cause an unexpected upset are missing-Korea who is the catwalk diva, T&T and India (who would have obviously changed her EG for the final).

...and she literally lost it by holding the front of her gown-and the scores reflected it.

I was trying to post previously but for some strange reason the page to the forum was not loading for a while.

As I said before, PE&A can no longer think that they are going to get what they deserve from MU anymore. Our girl can and will be bumped from the semifinals for financially savy choices.

Ok Miss USA fell...AGAIN! and worst...I think they're cursed and why...hmm cheating probably? But this was very embarrassing and seemingly hurtful...well they bombed Vietnam right? My opinion:
Best answer: Mexico
2nd DR
3. Russia (but did she listen properly to the question)
4. Columbia (why did you not use a translator?)and Venezuela (did MV even think before she opened her mouth)

Only 3 who could win--> Mexico, DR with Columbia (who won the SS and EG segments)-->one of these 3 is MU2008.

Now let's hope PE&A crown the new MT&TU in November 2008. What we all need to take from this year's pageant is that none of us know everything-not even Peter Elias himself. I am pretty sure that Anya's white gown would have been top 5 for the final but she was just lost in it for the prelims. We need to have 2 gowns if we are going to do something out of the norm-Period!

AFTER SEEING THAT ANYA DID NOT PLACE TONIGHT, IT HAS BECOME VERY CLEAR TO ME THAT MISS UNIVERSE IS A PAGEANT THAT TRINIDAD & TOBAGO SHALL NO LONGER TAKE PART IN SINCE IT HAS BECOME A HAVEN FOR CORRUPTION AND BRIBERY. TO BE FRANK, THIS IS A PAGEANT THAT WE CAN NO LONGER WIN ON GOOD MORALS AND HARD WORK. THE MIGHTY DOLLAR PREVAILS HERE AND IT TIME FOR PE&A TO MOVE AHEAD TO START SENDING DELEGATES TO THE OTHER INTERNATIONAL PAGEANTS AND STOP WASTING VALUABLE TIME AND RESOURCES WITH MISS UNIVERSE. MISS INTERNATIONAL, MISS EARTH, AND MISS WORLD ARE ALL PAGEANTS I FEEL WE STAND A BETTER, "FAIR" CHANCE TO AT LEAST BE IN THE TOP 15 RUNNING FOR THE TITLE. WITH ALL THAT SAID, THANKS TO PE&A AND ANYA FOR ALL THEIR HARD WORD AND DEDICATION AND ANYA HAS INDEED MADE T&T PROUD ALL OVER THE WORLD. ONTO MS. Did not see that coming from a mile away-well Ines got 2 MU right in a row and again this year's winner shows us that beauty will always prevail against brains at MU. Mexico-5th was a big shock but then the Donald has expressed his disgust with the illegal Mexicans b/4 and they did boo MUSA last year-talk about a bi*ch slap to them in 2008-I am pretty sure Mr. Trump Jr.'s votes were a contributing factor. Soon enough we will have a male version of Julia Morley at MU.

Every time trinidad isn't in the semifinals, Usa falls.. that's funny! Ok, the choice for Miss Universe is between Venezuela, and Colombia....Hopefully Russia wins, and becomes another Oxana.

But realistically, Colombia or Venezuela will win. As usually it's a latina to win. Predictable.

Trinidad and Tobago was not a semifinalist. Of course the favs made it..and puerto rico didn't....not surprising either. Obviously Peter and friends tried their best. The semifinalists looked good, and I'm expecting the result will be between venezuela, usa and colombia.

I am shocked that certain delegates have not made it, inlusive of T&T but not surprised we didn't. I know its the dress and am saying it again...poor choice! I will not comment on the top 15 other than to say congrats to them all but we all know your spot was given to a less deserving delegate. (Thank you MUO for your choices). I thought that you were better than 7 of the final 15 easily and we know you could have given the rest a good run for their money.

No T&T! No India! No Korea! After seeing who made it...HUH?

I know when I hear her name called I will be screaming so loud that Vietnam will have to cover their ears. I don't want Anya to change a thing. She got this far with her own stlye and that's what made her so unique. To all of you who would like this and would like that changed, just remember that she went there with her own style and she'll take the crown in her own style too. To you Anya, I am so proud of you, (I'm proud of all our girls for that matter) I love your chinese/Asian look and I am proud of your TRINBAGONIAN style. You just represent. You have my prayers. You'll never let me down. To C, Trini77, Pagent Critic, mAXIMUS ( Lets get ready to rumble.)We have a crown to collect tonight. I need to try and control my heart in the process.

My prayers go out for Anya and PE&A...All I have to say is a job well done, I am proud of her hard work...whether she makes it or not I am happy T&T at least got some recognition and was well represented by such a beautiful young lady...A TRINBAGONIAN! I dont want to post my 'prediction list' but sticking to my personal choice...I will love ANYA to take it all, but some how I think another girl has the title bagged....

I totally agree-I just don't see it with SA. Angola and Tanzania looked much better at the prelims. I thought A&B had a poor gown choice for the prelims though.

I did not realize that you placed Columbia so low but to be honest I don't think she has all of that appeal-at least not what everyone else has been saying. After all I ranked her out of my top 15 based on ss and EG but I am pretty sure she did well at her interview.

A word from the webmaster...
Comments will be removed that I find offensive or go out side the bounds of good taste,
there should be no need for use of curse words on this site, the english language is way to huge to stoop so low.
Just have a little decency when you choose to write on this message board, the stuff posted here will be searchable all over the Internet.
If you don't like the rules you are free to express yourself elsewhere... Again I did not create this site for folks to be mean or hostile to each other. No way would I want the contestants to feel degraded by comments placed on here...The people who want to represent TNT should feel proud to come to this site, constructive criticism is welcomed not destructive.
If you feel hurt that your comments were removed,
just imagine how hurt the contestants and folks you bash react when reading a posting that is outlandish.
I'm not into Drama, One Love People...
