Q. When are horses most likely to pick up parasites?


A. Parasite larvae are most active when temperatures are moderate and conditions are moist. Depending on geography, a horse may be at greater risk during a particular season. In the northern United States, for instance, peak parasite infection from grazing occurs in the spring, summer and fall. In the South and Southwest, horses are at greater risk during late fall and early winter.

Horses may be vulnerable year-round to ascarids (whose eggs are extremely resistant to temperature extremes) and pinworms, which never leave the horse host.

AS I drove many miles to be with my dying mother, I thought about how King David had poured out his heart to God. No matter what difficulties he faced, David trusted God. Like David, we can come before God in prayer, open our hearts, and trust God to answer.

I face trials and troubles, but I know God uses them to build me into the person I am meant to be and to lead me toward the goal God has for my life. As I place my trust in God, I experience freedom, peace, and contentment. When I pour out my heart, God hears me, heals me, and helps me. I could not prevent my mother from dying, but I could share my most difficult trials with the Friend who will never fail. My grief diminished as I allowed God to share my pain.

As each chapter of our lives comes to a close, God turns the page to reveal the beginning of the next chapter. When the last chapter of our physical life ends, we will meet God, the author of our lives.


Prayer: Dear God, let us open our hearts to you in prayer. Help us
to trust you and to do your will. Amen.
