Dearest friends,
Many thanks to those who came for my Dad's
wake from 22/10/2004 to 24/10/2004.
My Dad left all of us peacefully on 21/10/2004 at
11.57pm, in Assisi Hospice. That night, my
brother and I stayed by his bedside, held his
hands and watched him take his last breath. He
died with a smile on his face - one that I have not
seen for a long, long time since his illness (rectal
cancer).
The past one and a half years have been a painful
and exhausting experience. However, I think I'm
still fortunate, for I have been given the opportunity
to show, and tell my Dad my love. Prior to his
illness, I was never close to my Dad - I've always
regarded him to be a very stern person, and did
not even dare to talk to him. It was only when my
Dad was diagnosed with cancer, then I made the
effort to get to know him better. And I'm grateful to
be given the chance to get closer to my Dad
before he left us.
I'll never forget what my Dad said to us during his
last few days - "I love all of you and will always live
in your hearts." I guess I never realise how
important my Dad is to me, until he left us. And it
hurts terribly to know that he is no longer by our
sides. So do treasure those who are close to you
and never ever take them for granted. For life can
be so vulnerable and unpredictable...
Once again, I thank all of you for your kindness,
your words of encouragement, concern and
support. Thank you so much and take good care
of yourselves.
Love,
Yasmine
*My Dad's ashes will be cast into the sea
tomorrow, where he is finally free from all
sufferings and pains... *
