Lois, I have a true story that illustrates the "muck" thing. My father, who was a Protestant minister when he died, started his life as a school teacher. He believed that a Christian could go anywhere, as long as he didn't sin. A couple of his friends wanted to go to a beer joint. He went with them and drank a coke.

The following Monday, a girl who was tardy came down the hall, absent-mindedly singng a beer jingle that she had accidentally gotten brainwashed with from TV. When my father told her she was tardy, and told her that her song was inappropriate, she snarled back at him and said, "You're one to be talking. We came back from out of town Saturday, and when we passed the beer joint, we saw you coming out of it.

That's when my father became cognizant of the scripture: "Avoid all appearance of evil."

That's one of the lessons that the CofC hierarchy cannot learn, much to their confusion and ineffectiveness in guiding the flock. They repeatedly insist that, despite gross appearances to the contrary, that they are not doing all those bad things. But as long as they bend over backwards to make it look as if they are (that is, asssuming that they aren't actually doing it, which probably is the real truth) not even the lowest ranking member in the church is going to respect their authority.

What'll you have?
Pabst Blue Ribbon!

The priest in Iowa who was singing ...

What'll you have?
Another gay wedding!

...got silenced for his troubles. He was as angry as the young student, because he had been led to believe that what he had done was o.k., owing to fact that when he was coming back to town, he saw the First Presidency coming out of a GALA meeting.

George

P.S. Wally has already let on that he has another internet home. He has discussed posts there with John
