John, the Community of Christ is a legal corporate entity that owns the property, name, and real estate of the now defunct RLDS Church.

If you believe the Community of Christ is the RLDS Church, you would believe that Daimler Benz is American Motors.

In the Temple Lot case, the court ruled that the RLDS church was the original church founded by Joseph Smith, Jr., because of the church's belief system, and awarded possession of the Temple property to the RLDS church. On a technicality, that was overturned, because the appeals court ruled that the RLDS church, while the actual original church, had waited too long to press its claim.

If the trial were held today, and the Community of Christ sued to gain possession of the Temple Lot, the judge in the original case would laugh it out of court. After all, how could a church with priestesses and sodomites serving in the ministry "the original church"?

Restorationists of every stripe should be flattered that the Community of Christ wants to pretends to be the Restored Church, but in fact, the Community of Christ has more in common with the Unitarian Church, or the Metropolitcan Community Church.

I hear the "pot calling the kettle black" metaphor from liberals all the time. The tragedy is that the case of the CofC claiming to be the RLDS church is more like the kettle claiming to be a pot merely because the two of them are sitting on the same loading dock, outside the same warehouse.

Identity theft is a big time crime these days. The RLDS church is the first church I've heard of being a victim of it.

George
