Zero had no choice but to fight in this next round. His opponent was Schizm Salamander. It was an unusually designed Reploid. He was not noted for having any type of weapon, rather he was noted for being insane. Hence the name! He would unleash a berzerker combo on anyone who stood in his way. Zero, now knowing that X was alive, had decided to change his plans. He did not care now about winning the tournament. He just wanted to get X out, and leave the island.
Sal had other ideas though. The fight was in an underground facility. It was a similar structure the the Gauntlet Run Zero had traversed earlier. Sal was pink and green, and ugly looking. He lashed at Zero with his tail. Zero did not even want to be here, but he held his own against the tail attacks.
"What is the matter with you Reploid?", Sal asked him with a cocky attitude. "Why do you hold back?"
"You are wasting my time. I have better things to do."
"Yeah, like picking out your coffin!", Sal laughed at his joke. Zero wasn't even using his saber. He just fought bare handed. Sal threw a kick into Zero's ribs. Zero caught it, and spun the salamander around. He threw him into a wall. Zero then fired a volley of blasts into the light fixture on the ceiling. "Time to show you how I got the name Schizm!"
Sall glowed bright green. He let out a shriek, and ran after Zero. "DIEEEEEEEEEEEEE!", he screamed, while laughing wildly. His speed increased as he ran. Zero tried his lightning sword attack. The moment before they met seemed to hang in the air like an eternity. Time seemed to slow. Zero's sword struck sal through the chest, but only then did he reallize the Schizm Salamander's teeth were in his shoulder. Enraged at the pain seering through him, he lifted his opponent. It felt like three hundred pounds of dead weight. He hurled him straight up into the ceiling, and the salamander hit the broken light fixtures. He hit the wires, and fried instantly. Lightning, and sparks filled the air. Zero won, but he collapsed. There was something more than he knew about the salamander's power. It was all ready at work inside his body. Medical Reploids circled him. One called out, "His body has been tainted with poison! Get him to the med room stat!" Suddenly, Zero closed his eyes, and everything went black! (to be continued)
