Hi Chantal!

I really liked this ep too. I thought the second half was much stronger than the first though.

I totally missed the Red Museum connection. People were talking about that on my mailig list. I still don't know exactly what it is so maybe I need to see that ep again. The Oubliete connections jump out right away. I love the consistancy of how Mulder always reacts on cases wirth young girls involved. It always strikes a nerve. Skinner must know that too which is why he didn't want Mulder on the case (also he no doubt remembered Mulder's Paper Hearts behavior).

I haven't seen Kiss the Girls but the other movie comparison that just leaped out at me was a mini seies calld "Chiefs". No one else online seems to know what I'm talking about but when I asked someone else who'd seen it they said they made the same connection. If you're in the mood for some great and chilling drama I recommend it. (I think it can be rented on video). It was a three part series dealing with serial murders of young boys and starred Keith Carradine and Bill Dee Williams. Caradine's characters was named Foxy (!) and I'll guarantee that CC and Co. saw this movie judging by one scene they put in the episode. The comparable scene in the movie is so shocking and one that stays with you. I've never forgotten it!

The Jon Benet conection was creepy especially having the mother writing the letter since it's been widely implied that her parents wrote the ransom note. But many other series like the Practice and Law and Order take their stories from real cases too so I don't think the criticism regarding this which I've read elsewhere is fair.

There had better be a major conspiracy connection here because if there's not I'll be severely disappointed. They just can't discount all the alien stuff with Samantha. It's qwuite a twist that they sent her story in such a different direction especially once again bringing in Mulder's doubts about an alien abduction at all so if they can pull this all together next week I'll be very impressed!

DD was wonderful in this. I was watching the scene again when he tells Skinner that the girl must be dead because the mother saw her ghost and then asks to be taken off the case. The emotion in him and how he acted was right on and so well played. Other actors may have overplayed it and it makes me so mad that people (most notably Emmy voters) don't see his talent. I don't count on him winning but he sure as heck had better be nominated! (I have this huge gripe with Sam Waterston who I think acts about as good as a chunk of plywood so I'm mad that he was nominated over DD last year).

It was also quite a scene watching his eyes turns red and well up as he hung on to his theory about his Mom's death. Do you think he already sensed that Scully was going to knock down his ideas? He seemed to be rambling a bit as if he was trying to put off the obvious and not have to hear her autopsy findings.

The Skinner participation was strange but I think he was the SAC on this case (or was presented as such) not to mention he wanted to keep a close reign on Mulder so I guess he felt he needed to tag along. What was weird was him not including Scully. Why did she have to tell him there would be three plane tickets instead of two? What did Skinner think she would do? Sit home and wait?

Good point about the videos. Though his equipment looked a bit professional (he had all those monitors set up) and it could be video tape has been around longer in that capacity than it has for home use. The tapes looked like 1/2 inch (which is what we use) as opposed to 3/4 which is what is used professionally though so I don't know. Maybe since he's Santa Claus he has better access to things! LOL You said we eventually can rationalize anything so I'm trying here!
Santa Claus guy reminded me of Uncle Fester from the Addams Family.

And the Santa's Village setting. Ooo, how creepy is that?! I went there when I was a child! I'm guessing either CC or FS did too.

I don't think Sam will be among the graves either, at least I hope not, but beyond that I don't want to speculate on two parters because when I have in the past I'm usually wrong!

My main objection was the overdone Harsh Realm digs at Fox. Tacky tacky tacky CC! Especially having the father mentio a sceond time that he was watching a good show during a sewrious scene when Mulder was questioning him. These inside Hollywood jokes take away from the drama IMO.

One thing I didn't understand was the bit with the real estate lawyer. Is there some reference to a real life case that I'm unaware of because I didn't get that at all.

Great post Chantal and I want to talk about this ep some more. Btw I still need to reply to your latest Ghosts post. So many posts to get to!

det :-)
