Diana may well have really cared about Mulder and tried to save him in the end, and I agree that it was obvious she was pretty upset in the operating room. However, I'm not entirely sure that her involvement with CSM was in order to save Mulder. My impression was always that she was working for CSM, maybe even when she and Mulder were together before, that her really falling in love with him was never part of the plan. I don't think she realized the lengths to which CSM was prepared to go, what he's really capable of. Don't misunderstand, I think CSM has tried to protect Mulder as best he could all these years, but if he believed it necessary I think he would sacrifice him in a heartbeat. He might feel bad about it, but he'd probably do it. And even though we didn't get to see the body (a major disappointment) I do believe Diana Fowley is indeed very, very dead. I think CSM found out about her betrayl (for this how he would see it) and had her killed. Hmmm...first Spender, now Fowley. How can you not love a man like that?
