I agree with a lot of what you said in your post. There were a lot of descrepencies regarding the Sam clones and Mulder's "religious experience". I personally thought the walk-in story and the children being turned into starlight was a little ridiculous.

But...Duchovny carried this episode in a way that another actor couldn't have. His hope and reactions were perfect. It doesn't matter if that's what really happened; what matters is that Mulder is at peace. It wasn't important that it made sense to me; it was important that Mulder could now feel "free". That the hurt and guilt and suffering and just plain not knowing have disappeared and he can finally know that what happened wasn't his fault. Det is right, I did cry in this episode, and I have never cried in an episode of XF (unless I'm crying in pain at having to watch Mulder cry at Scully's bedside).
