I guess I give GA some leeway since I know she's not even a writer and this was her first time directing. Even after being the star of a tv series for 7 years she would have to be very nervous. And I liked some of the arty visual images she used.

But I do agree that this seemed more like a GA vehicle to showcase her own beliefs. Not that that's bad but it seemed out of place. I actually think the Daniel part fit because of what we've seen earlier of Scully's personal life. In Never Again, and we know she dated her professor. And even CSM observed that she's attracted to powerful men. So her being involved with Daniel I was ok with.

What I do agree seemed off was that somehow it was this guy who we'd never heard of before who was holding her back from Mulder. So all this time we are supposed to believe she's had this Daniel issue? But CC and the writers often toss in things out of the blue too. Maybe it would have gelled better if the episode had dealt with her relationship with her father or her brother Bill and how she needed to stop letting them subconsciously control her life?

I don't know. I thought it wasn't too bad for her first attempt. And I thought the Mulder-Scully phone calls were good.

I'm still confused on who wrote what in the opening scenes. Was the bed scene GA's idea and CC added the last scene to make it seem like Scully slept on the couch? Or was CC responsible for the opening teaser too? I'd accuse him first of wanting to drive us all batty!
