Respectfully, guys, the more discussions I read about this episode the more I dislike it. I really suspect that GA lobbied for and got from CC the promise she could do what she liked with her own episode - regardless, and CC couldn't back out of the agreement even if it meant re-writing Scully.

I agree, it was way too much GA for Scully's character. This was a self-serving episode for GA and she took her liberties writing Scully to fit things she wanted to portray, or perhaps a Scully she would rather portray.

Sorry, but the relationship with Daniel is rewriting the established history of the Scully's character. In the 5th season episode "Christmas Carol", it is established that Scully, and I quote the social worker who interviewed Scully: " You're a single woman who's never been married or had a long term relationship." * Never had a long term relationship * Are we to presume Scully lied on her application to be Emily's guardian? Maybe she did cause she's a good Catholic girl and didn't want to reveal her relationship with Daniel, as the 'other woman' responsible for breaking up a marriage? Sorry, that just makes the whole scenario worse. It is blatant disrespect to the fans to have something as important as this relationship was to Scully to - never - have even hinted at it all this time. Yet, we know of her past relationships.

In all fairness, it was almost as bad as Mulder wearing a wedding ring in two episodes that has NEVER been touched on again. Once again, the history of the character was changed, and IMHO that hurts a program. We never know what to believe.

But I digress. Then we are to presume that she hasn't been able to commit to Mulder until she's free of Daniel? And it's taken her this long to finally make a decision? Think about all the Scully and Mulder times together where they were really clicking, so giving of one another, so caring of one another, Memento Mori, Pusher - the list goes on and on, and tell me again she couldn't make a decision between the empty relationship with Daniel, and ...Mulder....

By the end of this episode, prior to the cozy couch scene, I felt like I hadn't even known Scully for 7 years.

As for 'did they - didn't they', it 'was' fun speculation, but many of us had already begun to get tired of the ambiguousness that defines the MSR so it was a terrible tease in a way. I personally thought no, they had not, based on Scully facial expression, and the lack of a whispered goodby or peck on the cheek. In fact, she looks downright indifferent as she finishes dressing and leaves. Perhaps Mulder did not satisfy her? oooooooo :-0 Maybe if she'd fished her bra out from under Mulder's pillow I would have believed, but we were left to our imaginations. There was even speculation on why she had removed her hose - seen when on the couch, and not seen when zipping up. Removed for comfort sleeping on the couch, or when she got into bed with Mulder for a little Naked Pretzeling? Mulder naked, or did his shorts just creep up? ah, that scene is a terrible fun tease, and like detoured said, caused countless posts and speculations, and I'm sure a ton of fanfic.
