Subject: 'Patience' and 'Roadrunners'

Ok, so here we are now, two weeks into 'normal' XF eps and what do we find? A return to the original MOTW concept episodes. In 'Patience' there was more than a touch of Tooms-ness, not to mention 'The Host'. Then, in 'Roadrunners' I was reminded of 'F Emasculata' and 'Ice' (although without the good story that Ice had around it). Fair enough, I suppose : these episodes are allowing us the chance to get to know Doggett and seeing how he and Scully get along. So far, I feel as if Doggett is biding his time, stepping back so he doesn't try and take over Mulder's territory. This is good, both for Scully *and* the Mulderphiles, because any cockiness on his part would have been the wrong way to go. Cocky arrogance doesn't go down well with Scully, as we've seen before.

In 'Patience', the scene in the car was good, when he (rightly) told her she didn't have to be Mulder, in order to solve the case. She seemed to think she had something to prove, in that respect. It was good that she took this on board. Also, I appreciated the in-jokes JD: "I'm trying to figure it out, just like you are" Now where have I heard that before??? And his comment when he got out a flashlight. (We call them torches, BTW!) "You ever carry one of these?"

In Roadrunners, Scully was beginning to come round to Doggett somewhat more, apologising to him at the end for going off on her own and trying to go it alone. Again, this could make things better for them in the future.

What is interesting is how they are still formal with each other and politely call each other *Agent*. Too early for first name terms, and they haven't decided to drop the formalities yet, and go for just Doggett and Scully. I will look out for this development as, again, it will be a sign that they have bonded a bit more.

As for the plots of these two stories. Awful, actually. I've never liked the gooey eps and 'RR' fell right into that category, including the far too many mentions of the word mucus. Yuk! I should have thought Scully's baby would have suffered terrible trauma by having the 'slug' put inside her. She should have miscarried, surely! It was nonsensical and we never even got an inkling as to why the mad people were worshipping a slug. Very poor.

P.S. Det, what's with the Fowley pic? Is there something you're not telling me???????
