Well, you make some good points Rab, and I'm not exactly disagreeing with them. Maybe Mulder and Scully's mutual mutancy *IS* the reason they were able to conceive a child.
But I still hold with the simplest explanation being the most likely one. She knows it is Mulder's baby because he's the only man she's had sex with in the past seven years!!
As for the "Oops, my mistake, I'm not barren after all" bit. . .all I can say is, this *DOES* happen in real life. I had an aunt who had been told she was barren and somehow managed to miraculously get pregnant anyway, after she'd already been married ten years and had given up on the idea of children. (I don't think my aunt was abducted by aliens. If she was, she never mentioned it.)
