in regard to his relationship in Scully. During the first season, she was just someone to work (and occasionally flirt) with. By the second season, she was someone he was lonely for (when they were separated and she was sent back to Quantico) and was willing to fight to have returned (in every sense of the word) to him in "One Breath". By Season Five, she was the most important thing in his life, eclipsing even his quest to find Samantha. (When CSM offered him "the thing you want most", Mulder immediately answered "a cure for Scully's cancer".) By Season Seven, it was evident that he was totally and completely in love with her and was willing to make some dramatic changes in his lifestyle ("This can't go on forever. The personal costs are too high." � Mulder in "Requiem") to give her the "normal" life she wants them to share.
