Subject: My take on Scully's actions in "all things"
In reply to: Stardoe 's message, "Re: The Goldberg Variation and Rush revisted re: the MSR" on 02:50:48 08/21/00 Mon

I think that M&S were basically exploring the idea of a relationship in "Rush", "Goldberg", etc. After the Millenium kiss there were probably more kisses, maybe a few dates, they begin to view one another in a more romantic way. I think they would allow that to play out and it probably came to the surface in strong fashion after Mulder's mom dies. I think that they talked about ending their working partnership. That neither of them wanted to sneak around with their new love but they knew that the F.B.I. would seperate them if they were openly lovers.

I think that the sexual relationship may well have started in "all things". And all of the starry-eyed fanfic aside, it is very much in character for Scully to leave. Especially if the first encounter was intense. Scully has shown a reluctance to express her emotions to anyone. She tells her psychiatrist that she can't show Mulder that she is afraid, she keeps the news about her cancer from her family and when she is about to die she pulls away from Mulder. She always deals with strong emotions by pulling into herself. Why should love be any different? Actually, if we believe she has loved Mulder for some time, she has kept it well hidden from him.

Rab-id
who thinks that Scully simply needed time at the end of "all things" to adjust to the new dynamic between her and Mulder and think about what that would mean to her future.
