First off I must tell you that I don't beleive in God. I do beleive that a supreme being had a hand in creating the universe (or not I really don't know). But I think that that's where the divine intervention ended. Everything that has happened ever since has simply been part of evolution IMO. The way humanity has moved on from living in chaos to settings rules and laws we should live by, from stopping the burning of people at the stake because their red hair meant that they were witches (trust me Ditched, I'm not taking a shot at you, just making a point :-) ), from treating human beings like objects to outlawing slavery, to me is just us as a race evolving into smarter being that try eliminate the practice of stupid things.

Just the time it took for those things to stop happening (slavery: 400 years) is proof to me that the fact that they've stopped is because of the slow evolution of the human mind and collective thinking and not because of divine intervention. As for miracles, I think that they are only random leaps of evolution that surface at times in certain people. I think that miraculous healing has more to do with the fact that someone inadvertently used their own brain power to cure themselves by elevating their mind to a higher plane of consciousness by using the belief that a god of some kind is helping them while it's only themselves who do the healing.

Anyway enough theorizing, the reason why I think that Scully's faith would have been shaken by the fact that CSM showed her that he cured the little boy's cancer is because I never thought that her newfound faith was ever that strong. If I had been in her position and had prayed to my god to heal me and it had miraculously happened the next day, I would have felt reborn and you can bet the farm that I wouldn't have gone back to work at the FBI. I would have felt like I had a purpose in life to serve my god and help humanity as much as I could.

In Scully's case I'd think it would have been to quit the bureau and go be a doctor or a disease reseacher. There's no way you can make me beleive that Scully weighed the good she could do as doctor compared to being an FBI agent and concluded that staying at the bureau was better! NO WAY, NO HOW!!! Scully couldn't be THAT stupid, I know she isn't!

It only leaves one conclusion: Scully always beleived that the chip cured her and that as a doctor she could find out how that technology worked by staying on at the bureau in X-Files to get it from the Syndicate. I think that it's the only she could have lived with herself.

Ditched, I know that as X-Philes, one of the rules we "live" by is "Trust no1", but let's not get carried away! Do you REALLY beleive that CSM's chip has no curing power, and that he lied about it's healing powers? Like you, I always wondered if it really worked, because it sure took it's sweet time to heal Scully, but in the case of that town boy there is no doubt in my mind that it works. There's no way they would have been able to stage an overnight cure for that kid, they must have known that it really worked and it did.

I think that Scully only prayed to ease her mother and brother's pain and die with dignity, and not for a miraculous recovery. Why do you think she prayed?

As for the cross she still wears, I say It's classic Scully disbelief. I think she knows the chip saved her, but that she's still uncertain (as always) that her recovery was all scientific or alien.

I may be wrong about questioning Dana's faith, but there's something fishy about this whole situation and I would really like any of you to explain it to this blasphemous Noromo. :-) (That is, if you think I'm wrong)
