...for two things, Mulder's not IN love. And Scully's interest in the XF in nowhere near as important as Mulder's, it's actually almost nonexistent.

I agree with all that you've said about Mulder's interest in the XF. There is probably more to Mulder's operation than what we've been led to beleive, because like you said DNA is so easy to come by nowadays. There must have been a bigger reason for them to have gone through all the trouble of kidnapping him. I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

As for Scully's interest in the XF, one could almost say that she no longer has any. She does feel indignation towards the fact that she was abducted, but she's too scared to find out the whole truth about the situation. They now know why it happened, and Dana seems to be satisfied with that. Scully knows that there is much more to this whole conspiracy thing, but she'd rather use any excuse she can find to prevent her from finding out any more.

For the XF to evolve and really make progress, Dana has to open her mind to extreme possibilities that would rock her world and everthing that she's ever known or come to beleive, and that scares the hell out of her. So all she does is fight Mulder on every little thing any chance she gets. For example, the chip they put in her neck obviously cured her cancer, but rather than to fully embrace that fact as the truth, she'd rather attribute it to God and her faith, why?

If Dana really had an interest in the "quest", she would have made the effort to open herself to beleiving in new things like Mulder's willing to. And since 7 years of Mulder trying to convince her hasn't worked, he's made the decision to run the last stretch alone , because he loves her and doesn't want her to get hurt and because he sees that she's not ready and probably never will be ready to handle the truth

Mulder did take a while longer to fall IN love with Scully like you said, but he stopped being IN love after what happened in "Triangle". I think that the fact that he almost lost Fowley in "The End", made him realize how important Scully was to him, and he decided to take a crack at letting her know how he felt in FTF and in "Triangle" and when neither attempts worked he stopped being IN love.

If Mulder was IN love with Scully, he never would have ditched her like he did in the beginning of that ep where he went to Vermont to solve that case with the monster. I know that he's done it in the past, but that was the best one yet! He said two words and just left, without as much as a glance or a "bye Scully!". Also in "Je souhaite", after Scully COMPLETELY embarassed herself in front of those Harvard scholars and was hiding her face with both hands, Mulder didn't even lift a finger to comfort her. Not even a pat on the back or a "it's gonna be OK sport!", nothing! Now are those the actions of someone IN love or hiding a secret crush, I think not!
