In response to all of what I have read so far, I would like to propose that they BOTH are IN LOVE with EACH OTHER, have been for a long time (but took a while to recognize it) and have a vested interest in continuing with the XFiles.

Scully's interest is personal. She has said that she wants to find out just WHAT exactly that chip in her neck is and why she was chosen. Mulder is also interested in the truth in this matter. I think he also would really like to get to the bottom of the whole conspiricy thing as well as finding the truth about his father, his mother (with the CSM involvement of who knows what???) and also about just what happened to him. I know that his brain surgery involved genetic transfer--however, why operate on his brain to do a genetic transfer. It's my understanding that every cell in our body has the same DNA or genetic code. I also remember taking cheek cells (in biology) because the chromosomes are larger and easier to extract and work with. My point is that there was probably a much easier (but less dramatic) way to do this procedure. They could have taken Mulder's DNA sequence from anywhere else in his body. This is why I still question just what they did to him and CSM.

As far as Scully being in love with Mulder--after watching all the early reruns--including the one with Boggs on tv last night, I have come to the conclusion that she has loved him and been in love with him almost from the start. I agree that she gets jealous--probably because these women from his past keep popping up and she doesn't know just how involved Mulder and the "other women" actually were.

Mulder, on the other hand, took a lot longer to realize that he really was in love with Scully. The first time he told her was on Triangle and she just said "oh brother" which wasn't all that romantic or that great of a reinforcement. His comment "I don't want to lose you again" told me that, in this episode, he did recognize her importance to him and how he just wanted her to be safe--not abducted AGAIN. He hasn't taken a life away from Scully--she is a big girl and can make her own choices. He might just want to tie up the loose ends with the alien aspect before he can settle down. It would be nice if he would share his thoughts with the audience--what was going on his mind when he went with the aliens???
