Hello Melody. :)

I for one would love to hear some inside gossip. "Gossip" is all it would be since it can't be substantiated, but I would still like to hear what you have heard first hand through the industry. You're closer than I am, anyway.

I think we have all pretty well figured out over the years that CC is a slave-driver, and literally that he is "god" over the xfiles; you either agree with him or you're out of there. He apparently is very hardnosed and difficult. Regardless, it is a formula for success that has others wanting to work for him as well as produced the successful XFiles. Um, devious work ethics, other than the ones mentioned? What? Is there indeed a dark side to him that doesn't make the press and tarnish the oh so squeaky clean image he has cultivated?

I found your other statement very interesting. I would like to visit the message boards you do to read some of the opinions of those who you mentioned. It is my experience based on visiting several boards for a while, that the general concenus _is_ that the relationship is all that is important anymore. Not everyone is particularly thrilled about it, myself included. I have been reluctant to give in as well. The myth is what got me interested, the MOTW eps. substained the series in between and the MSR was a cute whimsy that added a spark and sortof sewed the eps together. A wonderful formula at first. Until the series began to take itself too seriously. At what point this happened I can't really say. The myth began to fall apart with The Red and the Black, IMHO; the MOTW eps still run hot and cold (which makes them interesting; you never know what you're going to get), but the relationship has developed as the strong driving force, even as it is played as the sub-text. I once told detoured CC was a shipper, and she wanted to know how I could say such a thing. Just look at the eps he has written or directed and it's there. Not the first ones where he kept the relationship subdued, but the later ones. The ones like PMP, Triangle, and Mememto Mori, the Reduxs' and of course the movie. Then Ghosts and Milagro - all written by CC. Im sure there are others that I can't think of. And you know who added the cute little M/S moments in Chinga, right?

As for the characters revealing their pasts, if it fits into the context of what we know about them it can only add more insight into them. But if sloppily done, as when DD decides to wear his wedding band in an episode yet we see his FBI records list him as single at that time, and there has never been a mention of a wife at any time, these things are what we fans pull our hair out over. And of course the whole Fowley thing just stank of being fabricated, because there had been absolutely no references made about her before. We know of one relationship Scully had before being assigned to work with Mulder, so I hope careful attention is paid to details in her revelations in the upcoming episode to not screw up the established timelines.

Sorry this is sooo long. I echo your words: please don't take offense, I still e- en-- enj-- *SLAP* - enjoy, ahem, the program, too, more than not, and I enjoy a difference of opinion, you brave soul you. ;)

One last thing. Could it be that fans have become, how do I say this - more sophisticated over the years, while the series has stayed true, more than less, to it's original
concept? The fans know so much more than the writers, (really - I'm not being sarcastic ); fanfic has taken the characters and breathed a life of its own into them on so many levels; message boards analyze the tiniest detail - all these things maybe have taken the fans _beyond_ the tv series, and that's why there are feelings such as yours disenchantment? It simply hasn't caught up?

Chantal
