Subject: Two scenes with Harold
In reply to: detoured 's message, "Closure for us too" on 23:48:33 02/13/00 Sun

You bring up two interesting scenes with Harold.

First, in the hotel room, when Mulder was a acting a bit like he was a joke... I actually was really happy with that scene and thought it went really well.

First of all, Mulder had been woken up at 3am... also, rather than Harold just talking about his ideas vaguely, he was being really specific... saying, "wait... I can feel them I can see them... they're here in this room..." and closing his eyes and being all dramatic. So I thought it was this drama that Mulder was smirking about. I'm glad he smirked... otherwise, the audience might have been the ones to smirk and not take it seriously. I thought it showed Mulder isn't a blind believer, he does have some common sense. But you notice, even though he was smirking, he still got the pen and paper without hesitation. He was still open to the idea, he was just smirking about the drama.

The other scene you mentioned at the end, when Harold doesn't believe Mulder about his son, is interesting. At first, I was disappointed, I wanted Harold to see his son too. But after watching it, oh, 4 or 5 times ;), I decided it was perfect too, just like the rest of the ep. :)

Because, not everyone is going to get their closure and come to acceptance at the same time. Just because Mulder had his, doesn't mean it's Harolds time, so I thought that was realistic. Also, it was like Harold was exactly how Mulder had been, "I don't believe you!" - that's exactly how Mulder was all these years, and it was really nice for Mulder to see this and realize this and understand that Harold will come to accept it in his own time, and see what he had been and what he was moving on from.

Interesting theory about what Mulder's mom was saying. That does make sense, since they made a point of saying he'd slept until noon, and he seemed surprised/confused by that.

Also about Spender, good point about them being able to erase his memory as well.

I know what you mean about being so sad for Mulder. I have to admit, I accidentally stumbled upon a spoiler for this a few days ago, that said Samantha was dead. I couldn't even be pissed that I saw the spoiler, because I was SO sad that she was actually dead. I was so upset about it that I actually teared *then*! Without even having seen any of the wonderful acting. Just the actual fact was so upsetting to me. So I guess I've had a few days for it to sink in. ;)

It is very sad, but really, I think, the right ending for some reason. Somehow it seems so strong for CC to have decided this fate. CC really never lets me down. :) I always agree with his storylines and everything he does with the show, that's why I never get upset about any of the MSR stuff... I always agree with what he does, so I trust that what he does in the future I'll also like.
